Bibi tells wingnuthead to piss up a rope.
“Israeli officials said that if they eventually decide a strike is necessary, they would keep the Americans in the dark ”
This is a severe blow to the Obama administration, because they will be denied the opportunity to launch a pre-emptive apology. (Sorry about the HuffPo link)

What it really means is that the Israelis don’t trust O&Co. not to leak the plans to the Iranians. Israeli warfighting depends a lot on the element of surprise, and they’re not going to share such intelligence with an untrustworthy ally such as O.
Can’t say as I blame them. They understand, as the American Left apparently refuses to, that, when a man says he intends to kill you, it is prudent to take him at his word.

They know that the Obama Admin. and the State Dept. are NOT on their side, and will give details to the other side as soon as possible. Like, and immediate phone call:
“Ahmed? Yeah, got some bad news for you….”
hey, I may have been born at night, but not last night. I know whay they’re doing it, but ye have to harvest ye snark where ye may.
Damn, six days of Terry pratchett and the freak is starting to creep into my vocab.
The real problem is that the Iranians will react to an Israeli strike by attacking US forces in the region. The real problem is that US regional commanders won’t know when the strike will happen, and will not be as prepared to deal with it.
More importantly, the Saudis seem to be a lot more concerned about Iran getting nukes than they are the Israelis already having them. So much so that is my understanding the Saudis have implied off the record that should the Israeli’s were to fly through Saudi Arabian airspace, they would do nothing.
Oh, I’d almost be willing to bet that the israelis will place a private call to the US regional commanders. Just not Wingnuthead. I spect they know what they’re doing, after al this time.
This is deeper than Obama. We can’t be trusted as a nation. When 50% of our congress intentionally leaks secrets to the press for nothing more than free drinks and when the lowest ranking private in the army goes on a poofter hissy fit and posts thousands of secret documents on the internet, just to make a statement, and is applauded for being a hero, any reasonable person would conclude that our system is built on top of trusting people who can’t be trusted.
It would be foolish for the Israelis to tell us anything that we did not absolutely need to know, just to stay out of their way. Similar to how we treat the Afghan army. Tell them nothing. What you do tell them, tell them at the last minute so they can’t do anything about it.
hale, I gotta tell you, I wish I could disagree.
Have to agree with the good Professor. We, as a nation, are not to be trusted. Our word is as good as that of a heroin addicts when needing to get their next fix. Amplifying a bit on the above, I think “the word” will be passed, by the Israelis to those United States Commanders as can be trusted.
On a side note, which may very well show where this trust can be placed, it will be interesting to find out which folks in the five sided palace on the Potomac are at their limit, now that Obama has shown his intention to obliterate military medical benefits. (This applies to dependents and retirees, more so than active duty members) You can say good bye to TRICARE in very short order. (My eyes are still so red…I have gone through 5 bottles of Visine already.)
Where are you getting this Tricare stuff? I’m seeing anonymous quotes and such, but nothing official.
I did see this:
http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123272713
but that’s several months old.
And the original ideas about cutting Tricare benefits came from Congress and John McCain. Isn’t that the same John McCain who is a veteran himself?
Now I am confused.

We don’t need TRICARE any more. We can get Obama-care now. It is just as good and it’s free.
FREE, I tell ya.
I think “the word†will be passed, by the Israelis to those United States Commanders as can be trusted.
No. None can be trusted. Word will be passed to those that are in the way, so that they can make a choice to get out of the way. Any senior commander who gets this info must pass it up the chain and share it with the rest. Even if he doesn’t send it up, he has to act on it and subordinates will share it as soon as he does.
If it happens, it will start out as blips on the radar and about an hour of trying to confirm what it is. once it is obvious what it is, official communications will go through state department channels about training exercises and attempts to get overflight rights and back and forth messages adding to confusion. While diplomats are sorting it out, the strike package gets closer. Once it become obvious what it really is, it will be too late to do anything about it except try to intercept on egress. But that too would take hours and hours of high level dithering. Bibi will be giving “mission accomplished” speaches before Obama can launch a strongly worded protest.
Hale, as it should be.
I thought the Israelis couldn’t get there and back without refueling in or above Iraq. Well, I guess they could overfly Turkey for part of it and the Royal Saudi sands for the rest. Oh, wait! Who has the tankers to loan them if they do it that way?
If that’s the case, it cannot happen without our knowing. And helping, for that matter. If you see Bibi giving speeches on CNN before we air our official protests, just smile.
Oh, and on that side note about Tri-care… take the following source for what it’s worth.
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=7&sqi=2&ved=0CFEQFjAG&url=http%3A%2F%2Ffreebeacon.com%2Ftrashing-tricare%2F&ei=dClNT87gNIz2sQKP4YDHBw&usg=AFQjCNHxy-gb7vGkmbGM8Qe51B5ruv_FQA
Do we presume Israel does not have prepositioned assets in Saudi?
I don’t think we can presume anything.
Israel has Tankers. They’ve been doing practice runs out to Gibraltar and back. Also, they have some German Subs (Dolphin Class), and Cruise Missiles are 70’s Tech. Something tells me, though, that they don’t want the World to see the Subs go through the Suez canal, so they are taking the Long Way around Africa. Also, Kenya LOVES Israel, so I’m sure some “Milk Ship” is prepositioned to reload them with Fuel in the Indian Ocean. Hey, it worked for the Germans WW2, so why not use it?
As for the Air Route, there’s no U.S. Air Force in Iraq anymore, thanks to Barry and Hillary, and something tells me that Jordan won’t have a Problem with the Tankers hanging out over by the Iraq Border if the Saudis don’t give them a Green Light. But I think the Saudis will just say “Enemy of my Enemy” and let the Israelis have some Air Base to use in the middle of nowhere and some Fresh Saudi Air Force Insignia if push comes to shove.
Personally, I think BiBi will tell Barry to “Lead, Follow or Get out of the Way and DON’T try to use Carrier Air Power to stop us. YOU’RE the one who needs to get Re-elected, not me.”
And then it’s just a matter of Weather and WillPower.
I’m guessing it’ll happen during Memorial Day Weekend, when everyone in DC is on Holiday.
Hard to think Putin would want a nuclear tipped Iran, considering his problems with the Chechens and other Muslim peoples who might ask Iran for “support.” Do I see Russia letting Israeli jets refuel? Anything and everything is possible. I’ll bring the beer, you call for pizza. This show’s about to get interesting.
Air strikes are still possible, but internal mayhem is more likely. Air power can be useful but it is almost never decisive. I think the Israeli Mossad is competent enough to set off one of the Iranian’s own nukes and make it look like an acceident. Hell, they are going to get blamed for it anyway, they may as well make sure it gets done right.
At this point, they are just waiting for Iran to actually build a bomb for them to sabotage.
