Without intentionally godwining myself
All of those folks who are anxious for the collapse of our government, do any of you have any knowledge of the history of the Weimar Republic? No, it’s not the same situation, but there are certainly a lot of similarities. Is this the ‘Change’ you’re ‘hoping” for?
Naah. you’re all far too smart for that. Really.

Comment whining about how this is not the Weimar and how Ayn Rand hadn’t even been born yet and how we’re so much more enlightened and cannot ever make those kinds of mistakes in 5, 4, 3, 2……
Let’s see:
We have brown shirts in the streets (occupiers).
We have a President ruling by executive order rather than making Congress do its job.
We have a media that obeys the every whim of the President.
We have had over 200 years of experience in running a Republic, unlike the less than 12 years of the Weimar Republic.
We have a world economy on the brink of total collapse.
naah, we’re good
roflmao. Nice, Marv.
I hope nobody is anxious for the collapse of the government, and I don’t think its likely to happen that way anyway.
People are too secure in their wealth to revolt. Things will get slowly worse, but as long as they can get TV and food, nothing will change.
“Things will get slowly worse, but as long as they can get TV and food, nothing will change. ”
Prezactly, Matt.
Poontang, Pilsner and Phat.
Yep, I’m good.
Cool. I’ll be by your place to clean up the mess when you get arrested for hoarding by the new politburo
My usual example is “Are you familiar with the former Yugoslavia”.
Most don’t get it.
Don’t we import 60% of our oil? Don’t we pay for that oil with dollars that our government is rapidly devaluing? Doesn’t our government operate in part on money raised by selling bonds?
What will happen when the arabs stop accepting our monopoly money and people stop buying our bonds because they know we won’t pay them back or will pay them with devalued currency?
I don’t know what will happen, but I don’t think it hurts to ask the question. I think given our current politcal situation it is inevitable that we are going to find out.
Anyway, if these things happen, I think things will get worse very rapidly. Only Obama seems to be rooting for that.
Noting that a thing is now might nigh inevitable is not the same as wishing that same thing to come to fruition.
In layman’s terms: Don’t kill the messenger.
The message you’re delivering is the message of someone causing the problem by attrition and saying “Don’t blame me! i did NOTHING!”
That’s the point.
The former Yugoslavia was an unwelcome agglutinated relic of WWI Wilsonian meddling and Progressive revenge. It was a 1918 piecemeal pastiche of Ur-identity politics attempting to bottle-up the painfully poisonous Balkans (who started WWI after all) and preserve the West-European status-quo. It was comprised in mutual hatred by Slovenia, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, and Bosnia – and later under the boot-heel of the Soviets with Tito it nominally threaded an attempt at Neutrality.
If America went to pieces I hope that we’d have a better result, but the fracture-lines that the Progressives want to draw (and cut-along) are not geographical…
I’ve voted in every major election since I’ve been eligible to exercise the Franchise. Looking at the results from a disinterested perspective, I’d have to say that so far it’s been a Dismal Failure, which has lead me to research other’s opinions (most of the way smarter than me) on the efficacy of voting.
It’s inarguable that the Country has moved inexorably to the Left. In fits and starts to be sure…. but to the Left non-the-less.
How’s that voting thang worked out for you?
Pretty good, actually. Hows not voting worked out for you? If the people who haven’t voted because of your theory had voted in decent pwople instead of sitting home and whining about how it doesn’t work, where would we be? We’d be in a damned sight better shape than we are now, that’s where.
Tell me again how letting other people make things worse is better than anyone trying to make it better. Tyhis time, leave the tinfoil off, because every argument you’ve used so far has been pure tinfoil hattery and the rambling of fools.
lol. As Pascal said in the other thread; I can explain it for you, I can’t comprehend it for you. That’s a keeper, Pascal.
All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. I believe in doing what I can. Voting for Richard Mourdock and Newt Gingrich in the Republican Primary may accomplish nothing. I may well waste an hour of my life standing in line to do this. And I may well waste an hour of my life standing in line for Mitt Romney. What ever happens to our country I will never look back and ask, “What if I had voted? Would it have made a difference?”
Yes, voting may well amount to nothing. If you have any suggestions as to anything that I can legally do that will take two hours or less and has a better chance to improve our country, please let me know.
The point, Dave, is not even just the voting- though you’re right about that- it’ about if you don’t like hte choices you have what are you doing to change them? Despite the most strident opposition the gun culture has made huge strides, by constant pressure at the state and local and federal levels. if we were all putting forth that kind of pressure instead of just sitting back and waiting for someone else to fix it for us, maybe we could make a difference.
Who knows. I don’t, because nobody is trying.
Admittedly, I am a fan of his writing, and his commentary. IRT this post, and others of the same ilk (get off your butts and vote). The last couple of lines pretty much sum it up.

Well buddy, we need to be ready to round up the wagons.
Germany has several simularities to our current run. All we need is the run away inflation to start.
We are years away from energy independence(we have been for years and will be for as long as politics sees green in green energy), some of the fronts in medicine are finding cures at a break neck pace, we could start exploring space at any time.
I would like to think the glass ia half full, rather than half empty.
I have voted in every election I could. I lost interest in democrats when they nominated Carter.
I may not have started this fight, but I damn sure will finish it!
Now, what was this thread about? My medicine just kicked in.
Local. It begins at home.
Convert your stupid neighbor [take ’em to the range], convert your hippie brother, take a ‘coupla hours away from the fuckin’ boob tube and pass out yard signs, start tomorrow.
On a side note, people actually think I’m kidding when I state that going cannibal is my world goes to hell plan.
I have my recipe cards tagged with the names of my neighbors
Thanks, skip, for getting it.
Grau, you’ve already won the internet four times this week.
News Flash:
Voting for Democrats is a vote for Socialism.
Voting for Republicans has effectively been a vote for slow-motion Socialism.
Voting for Mittens (the Godfather of Obamacare) Romney will NOT change that paradigm.
Voting for Pauly-boy if he goes Indy will split the Rep vote and cause the Bamster to be re-elected which will be a vote for Socialism.
Since the Ultimate Destination no matter how we vote is Socialism, which we all know will eventually lead to Total Collapse, the only logical course of action is to vote Democrat to hasten the collapse so that we can begin the rebuilding process sooner rather than later.
I can’t wait for November so I can vote Straight Ticket Democrat so I kin git my .gov on, baby!!! Ima git me somma dat Free Shit while there’s some left to git!!! I’ve seen da lite!!! Thank ya, Jesus!!! Everybody say AMEN!!!
(we now return to our regularly scheduled program)
News flash: occasionally paying attention to what people actually write instead of overlaying your own stupid and then responding to your own stupid will go a long way toward not being an ass. But i wouldn’t expect that from you, libs.
Skip may “Get it” but if he had talked to those “local” folks I recently tried to talk some damn sense into he wouldn’t be so warm and fuzzy about the project.
It’s called Applied Bullshit and sometimes it doesn’t work as well in Real Life as it does when it’s spouted on the intertubes.
Kinda like when P.J. O’rourke talked to a woman living in a ramshackity .gov housing project and tried to whip some Free Market ideas on her about how if the guvmint sold the Project to her and her neighbors they could fix it up and build equity and have some Pride in the place they live. She looked at the building then looked at him and said, “I ain’t goin’ for none of that.”
You have to know who is smart enough to learn and who is not. I had sincerely hoped that you were one of the former, but now that I know you’re one of the latter, I won’t bother trying anymore. pascal, take this as a lesson; even people you normally think are with it, still cling tenaciously to stupidity they’re comfortable with instead of getting off their halfmoons and doing something.
So, Libs, you talked to someone and they turned out to be an idiot. Good reason to stop right there, and not make any effort, because there’s nothing that can be done anyway.
