From Jenny.
The first obit I actually like a lot.
“Weary of reading obituaries noting someone’s courageous battle with death, Mike wanted it known that he died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors’ orders and raising hell for more than six decades. He enjoyed booze, guns, cars and younger women until the day he died.”
I like him already, despite never knowing him, but he follows with this:
“So many of his childhood friends that weren’t killed in Vietnam went on to become criminals, prostitutes and/or Democrats. He asks that you stop by and re-tell the stories he can no longer tell”
Bloody well done, Mike. May the beer always be cold, and the engines always be hot.

Damn! Wish I’d have known him. He certainly would’ve been my friend.
It can be safely assumed that I will be hoisting a pint tonight Mike.
And I now have a goal.

That is the best obit ever.
Ya’ll notice all the good ones are leaving in ever increasing numbers lately…just a thought.
That is a pretty good obit, but I have had one bookmarked for years. It is from the Richmond Times Dispatch back in July of 2006. I really would have liked to meet this guy. (Hopes this makes it through the spam filter. If not, search for Fred Clark obituary)

I have a good friend, a retired Sheriff’s Sergeant I actually got along with (weren’t many of THOSE), who just died. His wife is a native Japanese, and she won’t do any obit, or a memorial service, or any sort of remembrance gathering. I think I’ll print out yours and take it to the Retiree Coffee, better known as “Geezers”, tomorrow. It will become Sgt Larry Pike’s obit, whether his wife likes it or not…
