it still warms the cockles
of my luddite heart to shave with a straight razor, to mow my lawn with a tractor nearly as old as me, to use tools that are far, far older than me, and to dream of a world where time stopped well before I was born.
Painfully, I’m still stuck with trying to get this network online and working. Not helping is the fact that I haven’t used DVD drives and burners in so long that they no longer appear to function at all. So I’m reduced to manhandling files around on removeable drives etc.
I’ll be happy when thisis over, lord knows. Pitiably all the real hardcore geeks I know are some distance away, so having them do this for me is not an option.

I’d offer to help, but I got roped into helping a friend move this weekend. Well, that, and I live in Indy.
Get thee to a “Pioneer Power” show this summer, and revel in the antiquites. My shed is full of old stuff. Corn husker glove, stoneware crocks, grain mill, bottle capper, etc. I’m with you: Just because those ways are OLD doesn’t mean they don’t work any more.
“antiquites??” What’s an “antiquites?” I’m SURE I typed “antiquities.”
Liz: i have a husker glove with me right now.
My wife says I’m just a farm boy who was born three or four decades too late…

Old Threshers Reuinio in Washington Iowa. Well worth the visit. They have, among other things, threshing sytems going back to the horse and buggy. Usually working so you can see all the bits and pieces.
Steam, Diesel, Gas all are present in every form ever made. It is a great place to get your ludite on.
Couple of months before he deployed son picked up an old Schick safety razor, decided to go all the way and got blades, a tub of shaving soap and a brush and tried it all out.
Guess what he’s shaving with over there now?
