Gentleman’s Knife
Dirtcrasher has a great write up about a very nice looking knife. You should go look at it.
I don’t get excited about ‘Tactical” type knives, they mostly leave me cold. On the other hand, a nicely made elegant knife like this, man, I just want one.
now, My daily carry is an Uncle Henry 897, because the blade I find most useful is that thin muskrat, plus it’s handy to have the almost-linoleum-knife like Sheepfoot and the drives phillips screws easily Spey blade.
but if I was going to put a knife in my pocket and walk the earth, I think I’d very much like to have one of those kit Carsons in my pocket.

*nods* That’s a handsome knife, with a strong, reinforced point that isn’t likely to break off easily. Handle is either stag or bone-stag, both of which are great handle materials. “Gentleman’s Knife” describes it perfectly.
What I like is that it was almost stupid cheap as far as nice looking knives go – instead of $70 it was $41.50 on sale.
In general I like a sheepsfoot blade like a rigging-knife, which is why my home-cooking is done with a Santoku.
Wow. I lust after that a bit. More than a bit. A lot. :)
Amazon’s price has gone up somewhat, to $43.90 now.
That and the 897 are very, very nice. I adore my Gerber Gator, but’s it’s a little too big for front pocket carry, sadly, and wearing it on my belt wouldn’t play too well at work. So I carry my Victorinox Spartan. Not as elegant as your knives, certainly, but I must say I have opened at least 100 bottles of wine with that corkscrew, and when you run across a lady with a hankering for a glass of wine, that is pure Boy Scout, sir.
I salute you, Vman. I used to cvarry the Swiss knives but they just ain’t pretty as these.
On the other hand, I have about a bazillion corkscrews, filched from hotel minibars all over the planet In case some woman ever wants to have a go at me. Yeah, it doesn’t have the style of the Swiss knife, but it’s my contingency plan.
Corkscrew? All you need is a shoe, really. And if you’re inside, a wall works as well as a tree.
Robert: That is AWESOME.
*grins* I felt the same way when I was first shown that technique.
