When all is said and done, some people will have to die.
Over at Baldilocks, there are a couple of great posts here and here which make the point that Dubya should have done something ahead of time, but only if he didn’t. Oh, hell, if it’s confusing, go read.
I couldnt say it as clearly as does Juliette. Nor with as measured sarcasm, she nails it.
No, all I can say with any certainty is that before this whole mess is straightened out, a lot of people are going to have to die.
Oh, hell, Al Quaeda will need to be cleaned off the surface of the planet, and there are a bunch of insurgents in Iraq we need to take out. That’s not who I’m talking about.
Thousands of Americans have been murdered on American soil. This happened because of the actions of islamic fundamentalists who consider Americans to be infidels and the American way of life to be a great evil. We are in the middle east attempting to eradicate the worst of these idiots.
People are standing in the way of getting this done. They are Americans. Until they all die, no real progress can be made. Consider this: Thousands of Americans were killed on our soil. We are doing the most best possible to prevent this from happening. The single largest impediment to success is not in the middle east, it is here on our soil, by people whose partisanship is so complete that no matter the value of what our president is doing, they consider it wrong, and do everything possible to destroy the man and his work.
No, I’m not advocating that we go murder our fellow citizens; far from it. What I’m saying is that until the Islamic fundamentalists kill all those people opposed to the work we are doing as a nation, we as a nation cannot accomplish much. Simply put, nothing short of their own death will convince some people that there is a real threat. And more importantly, will the people remaining, if any, be the ones driven to finish the job we started.

Well said. I agree wholeheartedly that some folks will have to die, and sadly there are many folks whose “partisanship is so complete” that only death will convince them.
However, I do talk hope from the fact that we (a) invaded iraq, (b) are still there, and (c) don’t look like we are leaving anytime soon (even with June-handing-over-talks). There may be public outcry, but it’s not ‘Nam, yet. This is not ‘Nam. There ARE rules…
(uhh…)
Peace,
Don
i agree.
isn’t it a bit infuriating? certain people want us out of iraq soooo badly, that they are doing everything possible to keep us there.
you would think people who do not approve of us in iraq would be doing everything possible to make damn sure we hit the june 30 deadline.
notice how the roadside bombs have quit lately? the bombers are all in fallujah. watch. now that the moqtada alsadr rebellion is failing, the attacks will stop too. except at fallujah.
we need to let the marines do some serious sweeps there.
