When I got this computer
(Working from an undisclosed location on my office notebook) It came with a wireless mouse. When I upgraded to a solid state hard drive and Win7, I realized it was no longer supported.
I have not yet replaced the mouse.
There can be, in my estimation, nothing more loathsome than a touchpad, and in Ogland, computer manufacturers who supply them will be strapped to the seats in overfilled portapotties and launched into space.

I like win 7 on my PCs but I am hesitant to try to upgrade a Vista laptop to 7. Was the upgrade easy enough for you? Did you buy the full instal?
Our IT folks did it. I won’t touch it if I don’t have to.
Daughter loves the touchpad on her Apple; I loathe the damn things.
I get a laptop, I’ll set up a mouse if I have to wire the damn thing into it.
Touchpads are a Godless Communist invention straight from the pits of Hell.
I don’t even like mice. The wireless track ball I use is the bomb however.
Prof,
In all likelihood, Win 7 will make your Vista laptop sing. It’s been noted that Windows 7 was actually the last (and best) service pack for Vista, but Vista had such a bad name by then that they had to repackage it as a fresh product and call it something else :)
I have an old Dell Precision M4300 that was shipped with XP but “Vista-Ready” on which I’ve put Windows 7. It doesn’t fly like my desktop but it runs pretty durn good for a machine that wasn’t really designed to run 7.
What I don’t like about a new OS install is that when you are done, you still have to install 89 new patches and udpates. It can take days.
Touch pads are better that joy sticks in the keyboard. Not as good as a mouse or a track ball.
I’ve been thinking about a SSD, that could make a pretty quick machine.
Still an XP hold out on the old home box.
It baffles me the way the PC world is still so attached to proprietary RF wireless mice rather than Bluetooth ones.
(And per Firehand, Apple’s touchpad drivers are superior to the ones that the touchpad makers ship for Windows.
Not surprising; Apple controls the hardware and can provide perfect OS support.
Synaptics doesn’t give a damn about your Windows use experience and it shows.)
Sig: I’ve never even seen a proprietary PC mouse, had no idea they even existed. I have never seen anything but a bluetooth mouse.
A superior touchpad DRIVER is a driver that attaches the computer to an absolutely inferior device in every way.
libsar _ I’m with you, except I use a usb plug trackball. Hell, I buy the damn things whenever I can find oneand shelf them as spares…
I did an upgrade from Vista to 7 on my sister’s laptop, and it fixed every issue she was having with her computer. As a relative novice to computer upgrades I worked from a tutorial I found online, and found the whole process fairly easy. She received the upgrade disc with the purchase of the computer, and I did a complete (clean) install on a formatted hard drive.
Touchpads are Satan’s clitoris. The only thing possibly worse is the old Thinkpad red nipple. As you well know, ha ha!
