What a good night’s sleep will do for you- especially a night where there’s a storm raging outside and you’re nice and dry in bed.
Conquering the elements is one of mans most primordial pleasures- being able to build shelter against rain, and snow, and cold, and hurricane and even atomic blast, has been an obsession of humans since there were humans. We’ve even built shelter against the vacuum of space and the pressures of the deep.
Nobody who has ever built a home, or a garage, or even a garden shed can fail to understand how satisfying it feels to stand in the shelter looking out at uncaring nature and think, I built this, and it’s protecting me from that.
Amen. Have spent a good portion of my life doing just that, for myself as well as others.
That is a true statement. Nothing better that finishing the roof as the t-storm rolls in and you can stand under the roof you just did.

Nothing like the pure joy of beating the elements. You’re right, this feeling goes deep.
I often stand on my covered porch during a storm. If it’s evening, I sip Beam Black and Coke.
But remember, you beat the elements because of help from the government!
Personally I’d rather beat the government with a big stick.
