As in Virginia tech showed
A single armed individual would have made the body count smaller.
Not much help to anyone- except to the extra survivors- but that’s all you can do.
Radio stations yesterday were making great hay about the guy wearing body armor- as if that made him unstoppable. Body armor is designed to prevent your death, it does not stop you from being harmed. A 44 magnum has, IIRC about 1000 lb-feet of energy at short distance, or about 1400 joules. It takes about 400 joules to break a leg bone, one of the toughest bones in your body. Plate armor prevents the projectile from penetrating, but it does not sheild the wearer from the impact; I can’t speak personally to the new lightweight Kevlar stuff but the old plate stuff? You get hit with a 38 special, and you’re on your knees gasping for air. So armor or no, a bullet still puts the idiot out of commission, at least long enough to disarm him. Imagine the last four heavyweight prizefighters hitting you in the chest at once.
Anyway it’s all speculation. If someone has made up their mind to do a stupid thing, all the laws and safeguards on earth won’t stop him. More laws won’t, making something more illegal won’t. Another talking head point was the high capacity magazine. If Jerry Miculek can get to the point where he can shoot 12 rounds through a revolver in under 3 seconds, others might do it too, no high cap magazine is required to obtain a high rate of fire.
Pray for the victims. Pray that we can get into this idiots head and try to figure out what caused him to change from a harmless geek to a sociopathic loon.

I know body armor has it’s weakness, that’s not what would keep me from being an effective hero in the situation.
What would is the darkness, smoke, screaming, and adrenaline rush with tunnel vision limiting my ability to identify and successfully target a moving shooter without hitting anyone else, but then again, I’m not a bad ass ninja. This guy seemed to be somewhat prepared for armed resistance from the audience despite it being a self-defense free zone.
Not saying someone shouldn’t or couldn’t have tried if they were armed and there, just an honest observation about my own abilities.
If I had a choice between trying and dying on my feet, or not trying and dying on my knees, I know what I will choose.
Sounds like a good case for having a Crimson Trace laser mounted on your pistol.
Hell, I alwys have a flashlight.
I don’t know if this is true — it was reported on the news, which in these cases is always dubious — but apparently there was a time in this carnage when he stopped to reload.
He stopped to reload.
And people did … nothing but watch him.
Yes, if one person had been carrying, this would have been over a lot sooner. A pity that didn’t happen.
But he was reloading and people didn’t rush him? He might have shot my ass but he would have shot me while I was trying to do something, by god.
Jenny
I have to agree with Jennie. There had to be people behind him if he was moving up the aisle. Couldn’t someone have tackled him? I get how a gun may not have helped in this situation: the darkness of the room, the shooter n all-black getup, panicky people everywhere. It would be difficult to shoot with confidence. However, he was just one guy! I know, I wasn’t there, but I’d like to think I would do something.
During WW Two, a Brit Tommy demonstrated 60 rounds in 60 seconds from an Enfield boltie, reloading included. Also, each round hit a 12″ square at 300 yards, using open sights!
All your action and capacity restrictions mean nothing when good training is available.
BTW, the FBI had a demonstration team that could do “18 in 6” 50 years ago.
I’m thinking we may want to remove his head from his body before we try to see what is in it.
This is sad, but it sounds like the theatre was loaded with people who do not do for themselves.
I’ll have to get some more details before commenting more, but I did read where theaters are a nogo zone in Colorado, so the probability of having anyone who would give up carrying to see dreck would be diminished. Yes I know it was Batman, something, but it is still dreck. Most people I know who carry would do something, even if not armed.
On the armor, I’ve seen pics of people who were wearing armor when shot; the bruising(and sometimes broken ribs, etc.) are amazing.
