I take no issue whatsoever
with what Akin said, because I don’t think of it at all.
First of all, I’m not voting for him; second, if i was voting for him I would do so based on his abilities and record, and not on a gaffe he made. If he’s capable, he will be capable despite his gaffe, if you decide he’s not capable because he’s got a single opinion on which you disagree, you’re a moron, and deserve the government you allow to happen because the guy you would have voted for proves himself to be less than flawless. get a clue, idiots, we had one flawless human being here, what did we do to him?

I agree. One measure of competence however, is ignorance in the face of massive amounts of data. What he said is too stupid to piss me off. The fact that he honestly believed what he said, even though it’s patently untrue, indicates a level of incompetence that is, well, actually pretty common in the US Congress…oh, never mind.
On the otherhand, y’all get Claire McCaskill.
I agree with you. So why are all the republicans biggies bashing him? He’s being destroyed by his own party, not what he said.
Giraffe: because none of them has the testicles of a gnat. If they did they’d be out there reaming the dems for all their shit too.
The media controls the narrative. That sucks, but that’s the world we live in. That fact won’t change in 75 days. So you can operate in a reality-based environment, or rage at the gods at the unfairness of it all. This retarded prick Akin has given the Democrats and media the lumber to beat the GOP over the head with for the rest of the election. Changing the narrative from the economy. The damage he causes cascades far beyond Missouri. And besides, he’s obviously too frigging stupid to be a senator. I’m with Coulter for a change on this one. Dude needs to have a fucking hunting accident in the next 30 days.
“So you can operate in a reality-based environment, or rage at the gods at the unfairness of it all.”
Just where did you think you landed, Vman? This is ME we’re talking about.
“This retarded prick Akin has given the Democrats and media the lumber to beat the GOP over the head with for the rest of the election”
No, if it wasn’t him it would be someone else saying something else. If GOP leadership had any balls the media that controls the narrative would be pissing their pants in fear, but there isn’t a R with a pair anywhere on the ballot.
“And besides, he’s obviously too frigging stupid to be a senator” That’s a qualification, these days.
Know how this ought to have gone down? Guy bows out, then gets a choice cabinet position in nine months, that’s how it ought to go. Dems do that all the time. Why don’t we learn from them, ionstead of letting them beat us up with the same tired shit year after year?
I’m with Og on this one. Personally I don’t watch the news networks. And if tv ads had to make money of me they would starve. I guess I’m not there demographic or something.
The dems can do what they like. They don’t have a record to run on, so they’re banging the drums and ringing the bells of all the issues that have worked for them before.
Sorry. As one of their own once memorably noted, “It’s the economy, stupid.”
So yeah, I’m with Og, too. Is Akin a fucking idiot? Yes, but since when has that disqualified anyone to serve in Congress? Some of the biggest dopes in history have been American Senators. Look at Barack Obama, for crying out loud.
Yes, what he said was stupid. I think when he said “legitimate rape”, he meant as opposed to statutory rape, which often isn’t rape at all. However, the way he handled the gaffe has caused him to go from a +10 against McCaskill to a -11. So yes, a majority of Reps, past and present, in Missouri want him to bow out. His apology didn’t impress, either. But he’s not quitting and most Republicans will vote for him to get rid of her. I’m not so sure about the Independents, though. I just know I’m stuck with him. He does have a solid voting record.
“If he’s capable, he will be capable despite his gaffe, if you decide he’s not capable because he’s got a single opinion on which you disagree, you’re a moron”
That is absolutely weak.
I can think of several “single opinions” that you would consider dealbreakers without even raising a cerebral sweat.
“I can think of several “single opinions†”
I, on the other hand, cannot. You do not hire a public official to please you or to agree with all your opinions; you hire him to do a specific group of tasks. If he is the best at performing those tasks, shuning him because he hit you with the red ball on the dodgeball court is the sort of behavior I expect from five year olds, not adults. Akin has one of the highest ratings for his voting record of any conservative, which is why he was attacked. And all conservatives have learned the media inspired lesson of throwing the offender under the bus at the first opportunity, so there is no threat to the embedded rinos.
“First of all, I’m not voting for him; second, if i was voting for him I would do so based on his abilities and record, and not on a gaffe he made.”
My thoughts almost exactly. Why should I care? Why should anyone who lives in a state without the initials MO care? Just cuz’ some national media twit decides I should?
My gut feeling is Akin isn’t playing ball with the big , D&R party on something and this is payback, although what he said and how he said it was just dumb.
Things like this make me consider doing away with national elections for POTUS and VPOTUS. Just let the elected congress critters and senators vote for them. This would lessen the national scope and power of political parties, and maybe blog space would be occupied by other more important things, like building AR clones, load data, and recipes for Mexican martinis.
“And all conservatives have learned the media inspired lesson….”
Not all in an equal fashion as exhibited in this case. There is a conditioned reflex in far too many cases. The key measure is to ask the question: how did the
RINOsSKUNCs respond? All who went the RINO way have learned the condition reflex, and not yet learned the game. The majority of your readers seemed to have learned the game, thank God.
You nailed it: “so there is no threat to the embedded rinos.” Because they are the Left’s greatest allies outside the Democratic Party.
yep. Everyone seems to be happy to throw them under the bus like the good little apparatchiks they are. I’m happy to see him standing up, and if some people would get behind him, and he won, it would mean more of the same; people who can do the job not being tossed out like yesterday’s garbage because they made a stupid off the cuff remark. Only conservatives do that, did you notice? if Democrats did it, there wouldn’t be a single democrat holding a job higher than dogcatcher.
I’ve spoken to people in meatspace about this, and to a person, the ones who bitch that we never get a “Good candidate” to vote for are the SAME ones who will throw anyone under the bus they don’t agree with 100%
