Look, you monkeys
They’re repaving the cross street. That’s all. You don’t have to slow to a crawl, the dropoff is only an inch. You have an enormous SUV designed to climb over logs in the remote forests of the world, trust me, the suspension will take it. Same goes for grade crossings.

It does boggle the mind all the high ground clearance vehicles that never leave paved roads.
Hell, Ive done more off roading in my Civic than most of those pavement rambos have done in there whole life.
The stump-jumper SUV can take it, but women drive them over the tracks like they’re daintily lifting the fender skirts to keep from getting it dirty.
Sadly, I see both sides of this. My wife does not drive an SUV, but does drive a full-size Ford Windstar that is more than capable of handling speed bumps and the like at speed.
Sadly, she is not. She has both rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia that make her life hell on a good day (of which she has few). Throw in the fact that she’s been rear-ended (and hospitalized) on several occasions (with resulting lingering injuries), has survived reconstructive neck surgery, has inoperable degenerative disk issues and more, and hitting potholes or speed bumps at even 5 MPH causes excruciating pain.
When alone I take ’em all at speed and enjoy it. When driving with her in the car, I crawl over these things if at all possible.
And that’s the way it is…
Yebbut, you don’t drive over the logs at 55MPH. Iffen ya did, your suspension would be on the top.

Bill: No offense, but if an illness affects your ability to follow the rules of the road and keep up with traffic in normal conditions, get off the damned road. Anyone that fragile shouldn’t be moving anywhere.
So how, exactly, do I get her to the doctor’s office, or to go shopping, etc. etc.? Mind you, I’m impatient as hell and it grates on me as well, but you can’t just stop living, ya know?
You’ve mentioned your aches and pains many times on your blog. If your pain level increases, so you intend to take your own advice?

We are both “only” 58, so we have a few years yet (maybe) before we take up permanent porch-sitting as our sole activity.

If my pain level was such that it hurt to drive over a bump in my truck, I’d buy a car with a big cushy suspension that doesn’t feel the bumps. If it hurts you to hit a bump in your lifted, big-tired Dodge pickup, maybe you should have gone for the goddamned caddie instead.
As it is, just sitting in the car causes me some degree of discomfort, but it has never affected my ability to get the fuck out of the way of people who have to get somewhere. Maybe look into one of these
