Look.
I know the left has brainwashed a ton of people into the belief(There’s that word again) that the ability to murder an unborn infant is a G-d given right, but it is not. I know that everyone labors under the asinine impression that people with actual- you know, morals, can’t be politicians. That is the opposite of the desired outcome, and it is just another product of the indoctrination of the left. I know that Womyn everywhere get all up in arms everytime someone suggests they not scrape the innocent out of their wombs, i.e “It’s my body! You can’t tell me what I can do and can’t do with it” That part is true, however, the bundle of cells in your uterus is NOT your body, it is another unique individual- or two, or however many. Regardless of your indoctrination, it is morally repugnant to even consider it’s death. I know that womyn everywhere have the same rallying cry: “You can’t have a child, so you can’t tell me what to do” Well, as soon as no man anywhere ever pays one red cent towards any child he fathered or adopted, WRONG. We provide half the genetic material, we provide the lions share of the sustainence and for thousands of generations ALL the sustainence, to tell us we have no say in what happens for the nine months prior to delivery is merely ignorant. Don’t get me started on anyone who is anencephalic enough to suggest that men cannot be raped.
All that aside: Anyone, left, right, center, whatever- who is posessed of the granite hard ignorance to think the right wants to shut off abortion in any way is clearly oblivious to two dirty little secrets.
Dirty Little Secret 1: Plenty of rock ribbed republicans would NEVER make abortion illegal just in case they had to tow 17 year old Muffy to the clinic to scrape out the brown baby she was going to have because of an indiscretion at the Maroon 5 concert, and
Dirty Little Secret 2: A shitton of very conservative people are Margaret Sanger Tickled that those Ni**ers are aborting their babies and want them to keep on doing so as much and as often as possible, and get some of those wetbacks in there too, while you’re at it.
As a Christian it is my responsibilty to protect the innocent. I do what I can, and I am aware it is a battle bigger than me. But As a Christian it is also my responsibility to see to it that nobody gets raped. That nobody ends up in a joyless marriage. That men and women can choose not to CONCEIVE children. I have reproduced exactly one time and I have never in my life participated in any form of conception control that was not fully approved by the Catholic Church, and- trust me on this- this has meant eternal vigilance. So anyone who claims “Accidents can happen” is a fucking idiot.
I do what I can. You should be doing what you can. And when a man is asked a question, and gives a moral, decent answer to it, well, maybe if you didn’t throw those people under the bus quite so readily, we might have better choices for candidates. As if being a moral person was inconsistent with holding public office.

A similar debate is going on on one of our media sites and one commenter says he was a result of a rape… given up for adoption but has since re-united with his mother and both were very happy that the pregnancy was not terminated, he spoke of his love, respect and gratitude for a woman that decided to tough it out despite what the world had thrown her way.
To me that was proof enough that what I believe is God’s way as well. Out of something bad a loving person was born and a mother cherished.
Every life is precious. Even bastards like me.
Yes. Even.
As someone’s grammy said, you gave up choice over your body when you chose to give it to someone else. Might have been yours, Og.
I once had a girl I was fond of. She disappeared one weekend and I found out later we would have had child, but she felt it was too soon.
Never saw that woman again.
I understand Mourdock. sounds like it is a non story to me. but then what do I know.
Since I’m no longer a Hoosier, I was hoping I could ignore Indiana politics from now on – but no such luck! As it happens I was thinking about this very topic on my way home from work tonight. I agree with your opinions (although I am no longer a Catholic.) I am pro life an pro choice at once. To me abortion is a moral matter and it shouldn’t be political one, primarily because it crosses too many lines. A woman may have the moral responsibility to not have an abortion, except in extreme cases, but who has the right to make that decision for her? (Not to mention the fact that men have almost NO SAY in reproductive matters.) I think you are dead on, and that it will never become illegal again. The reasons for that are too numerous to count, and your two dirty little secrets are at the very top of the list. The hypocrisy in politics and in Christianity, makes the very idea patently ludicrous.
The only viable way to reduce abortion, is to give it consequences rather than rewards. The modern incarnation of feminism is nothing more than using the power of law to absolve women of all responsibility and accountability for their choices. Feminism makes it easy to choose abortion.
Incidentally, I recommend you start reading http://dalrock.wordpress.com/ if you don’t already; I think you’d like him. His posts are analytical and carefully documented, and his comments often run into the hundreds. Some of the smartest people on the internet have astonishing discussions on his blog, but be warned – a few of them are pompous blowhards as well. Dalrock was my introduction to Red Pill thinking. He has his head on straight, and he is one of those rare proponents of genuine Christianity and Christian marriage; he has no patience whatsoever for feminist- and SoCon- steeped Churchianity.
Og, as usual, you are right on target.
The thing that strikes me about Mourdock is that he’s CONSISTENT. He believes it’s no more acceptable to kill an unborn baby conceived by a rapist than it would be to go kill the living children of a man convicted of rape. If you believe (as I do) that life begins at conception, the two acts would be morally equivalent.
Mark, exactly.
There is the problem of the child reminding the mother of the monster who raped her. Why not put out for adoption then instead of abortion.
Well then there is the ancient policy of expanding the tribe via rapes. The whole community wound of being reminded of the marauding hordes over the next generations.
You know that the rapist got off in part because he envisioned spreading his seed and his likeness.
I’m not saying any of these views is an excuse for abortion. In fact the Jewish tradition had to endure so many invasions that naturally included rape that the elders over 3000 years ago decided then that a kid was born a Jew based on the mother and not the father (It had been originally father based along with tribal position. Only tribal position (Kohane, Levite, or Israelite) remained father lineage).
My point Og is that the consequences of remembrance and motives of the rapist need a wider and humane discussion. It surely would show consideration for the enduring feelings the women so affected have to endure.
