What is the answer?
Well, as has been said so many times, we’re not going to vote our way out of this mess, and that’s true. But we can work our way out of it, incrementally, and slowly, which is how we got here in the first place.
I know it’s horrible to think of voting for someone as miserable as romney, and I know it’s horrible to think that the Won is so bad that romney is actually better, but conservative/libertarian types are what GOT US HERE.
No, it’s not the liberal left, they’re just too stupid. The educational system, the media, and the unions are the driving force behind fragmenting normal people in this country, and for the most part, they are successful. All they have to do is plant a seed of discontent and we invariably leap to it like a trout to a tasty tidbit.
I can’t vote for him! John Stewart says he’s stupid!
I can’t vote for him, CNN says he thinks some rape isn’t legitimate!
I can’t vote for him, he said he believes in God!
I can’t vote for him, he wears an ugly jacket!
I can’t vote for him, someone I know said he’s no better than what we have!
At the end of the day, no candidate is ever good enough for “Principalled” people. And so the unprincipled carry the day, again.
The vast majority of the morons in the country have no more solidarity with their elected officials than a blue balled vervet monkey, but they are willing to let their differences slide because they are at least heading in the direction they prefer.
You would think conservatives and libertarian types could actually learn from this, being as they are at least nominally capable of more intellect than the leftist cattle they despise so much. But here we are again, we hear the air raid siren, and we march off to our demise every time, because we would rather the morons win than compromise a single principle.
Hows that been working out? Who are the eloi again? Why won’t you vote romney again?

Because Romney=Obama, and because I live in the Peoples’ Demokratik Republik of Illinoistan which will cast its electoral votes for Democrats ad infinitum regardless of how the living and legal residents of the state vote.
Pretty much: I can throw my vote away, or I can compromise on my principles. I did the latter in 2008 when I voted for McCain.
At least if I throw my vote away there’s a chance that the Libertarian party will have more traction next time, and have some net positive effect on the election dynamic. (However slim that chance may be.)
I think President Romney will surprise you.

Ed has it right. The siren is a false one. Romney is just as bad as Obama, just in a different way.
I love how you blame conservatives and libertarians for the situation we are in, when people like you continue to support crap like Romney and McCain- and THAT’S why we are in the situation we are in. We had a great chance to choose a perfectly electable and principled candidate, but we didn’t because of, well, stupidity really. Before it was “you libertarians just go away!!” Now its “WAIT come back!!!”
Sorry, I’m hoping Romney goes down in flames because of people like you. I know that it doesn’t matter who wins- because elections aren’t going to change this (especially not with the two junk candidates we have).
Where have you been the last four years Matt?
Only the people who have been where we are going do not want to go there again.
Wake up.
Excellent, Matt!
Now describe how your brilliant master plan has fixed ONE SINGLE THING ANYWHERE EVER, AND HOW IT EVER WILL.
Oh, that’s right, you cannot.
“I love how you blame conservatives and libertarians for the situation we are in”
Yeah, the chickens come home to roost, and the kicked dog yelps. Sorry if those facts are inconvenient to you. Deal with it.
My point is thus proven. Thanks, Matt. YOU gave us Obama. YOU gave us Romney. YOU gave us every single moron that has held elected office, EVER, because of the EXACT THINGS I HAVE DESCRIBED, and you admit it with your own words. Sorry, YOU are the problem, and as always, you have NO SOLUTIONS, only whining. Shut up, we don’t want to hear it. Come back with real workable solutions, or don’t bother coming back.
As I have said many times before, the “Lesser of two evils” that everyone is always whining about is STILL LESS EVIL. You are never going to get anywhere near “Good” until you fight your way back through the LESSER AND LESSER EVILS. Anyone got a plan to go from “Evil” to “Good” in one step? No, I don’t mean the ignorant fantasy of voting for some third party lunatic like Ron Paul, I mean an ACTUAL WORKABLE PLAN. Show me that plan, and IO’ll vote for Bozo the Clown to make it happen. But you don’t. All you have is your “Feelings”. Pah. Feelings are what democrats have.
I am prepared to be wrong about Romney. If he turns around and governs like he’s not “Democrat Lite” I’ll publicly admit it over at the Fungus and vote for him in 2016.
I do not expect to have to.
Ed: Should he be lucky enough to get elected, I expect you will be surprised. Remember, everywhere he has been, he has done to the letter almost precisely what the people who elected him said they wanted. If he does that this time, he may do very well indeed. You’re too young to remember, but people said exactly the same things about Reagan, the very first president I helped elect.
Not to argue with a man in his own house, which is what this blog is, but I disagree with you sir. One upon a time the choice was between the Democratic-Republican’s and Whigs…now it’s been 150 years since we had a Whig on the ballot.
Only by voting for someone else will we get a different choice than ‘vanilla’ or ‘french vanilla’.
I tend to feel that more than libertarian’s being the problem, the problem is the Republican Party itself right now. The party is split between folks such as myself that don’t mind MOST of what the Republican party stands for, and then the Religous Right, who won’t back any candidate that isn’t Anti-Gay Marriage, and Anti-Abortion.
I’m not sure those two groups will ever be able to agree on a candidate with a real choice at winning…so, yes, I voted for Gary Johnson(not that it matters in Washington) in the hopes that maybe in the next 8-12 years, we can see some great change(or even schism) in the Republican Party.
Now…I did vote Republican in the Washington State Governors race, which looks like it is shaping up to be close.
OK. If I’m wrong, tell me how to fix it. If you can’t, you prove I am correct. (By the way? Voting for Gary Johnson sends a clear message. That message is “I’m stupid, and bad at math”)
greg, you ever think 8 to 12 years may be too freaking late?
Your vote for Johnson is a pyrrhic victory at best.
In my opinion anyway.
davek
Hell, Greg, did it ever dawn on you that “Schizm” is precisely- as I illustrated above- what the left wants the republican party to do? Is anyone out there awake at all? How does this make anything better?
I don’t think the left wants that. Just like there are a lot of people who are one issue voters, there are A LOT of people who WON’t vote for a party because of one issue. In this case, I think there are a lot of ‘swing voters’ who won’t go Republican because of the what they see as too much ‘Religous Right’.
Anyway…her in Washington, it’s all pyrrhic. Romney has the same percentage chance of carrying Washington that Johnson does…ZERO.
As i thought.
“I don’t think the left wants that.”
Think harder. Your thinker isn’t working too well.
” Just like there are a lot of people who are one issue voters, there are A LOT of people who WON’t vote for a party because of one issue.”
Except Democrats, as can be easily demonstrated.
” In this case, I think there are a lot of ’swing voters’ who won’t go Republican because of the what they see as too much ‘Religous Right’. ”
Yes, because theres no way a religious and moral person who has a solid moral compass and strong values could EVER be a good candidate for anything.
“Anyway…her in Washington, it’s all pyrrhic. Romney has the same percentage chance of carrying Washington that Johnson does…ZERO.”
Well, only the voters can change that. Assuming they’re not sitting around bitching about how horrible everything is.
Damn right, Og. I keep telling my Johnson-voting cousin that she’s definitely sending all kinds of “messages” with her vote but none of them are quite what she’s hoping for. She doesn’t care. She’s going to Save The World.

Shut the EPA down hard and kick anyone who wants to make a regulation for any reason right square in the nuts.
We should be flying high again in about 6 months.
