Concealed Carry in Illinois.
I like the WaPo story the most:
“Federal court ruling on Illinois concealed carry ban sets stage for appeal, legislative battle”
Monkeys. “People will experience freedom! We must move to stop it!”
Of course if they do manage to let it happen you will only be allowed to carry a Cop357, or something equally useless.

They might be willing to compromise and allow muskets.
They’ll probably make it a may-issue state, and then make the criteria for a permit almost impossible to meet, and require all sorts of expensive and time-consuming training, combined with a huge cost for the permit (which will need to be renewed every year).
If they don’t want people to carry, there is always some way for politicians and shysters to rig the deck.
I’m afraid that the limitations on carry in Illinois will look like NJ. So limited as to be essentially a prohibition. Just to get Jerseys version of a FOID I had to have 3 references and the permission of the local Police. They put me in the holding cell while I waited to get finger printed!
Hell the 7th Cir even cites the “reasonable” restrictions on CC that the People’s Collective of NY have in place.
My prediction: Madigan and his puppets from the Heart of Darkness put together a bill that makes NJs draconian limitations look good.
Color me cynical.
Sorry, the “Cynical” color in my Crayola 64 box was all used up in the last election. How about ‘Flesh”?
Rumor has it that SCOTUS will deny cert since this hews too close to ground they’ve recently covered and so IL’s gun haters are boned one way or another. It’s going to be pretty restrictive at first, but prior experience in MO and OH shows that this is always just the nose under the tent.
They start out by letting you carry super-concealed and you can’t go within 100 yards of places that sell alcohol and it has to be locked in the trunk of your car on any road that doesn’t have a median on alternate Tuesdays…
…and five or ten years later, you have normal CCW.
Knox,
“Hell the 7th Cir even cites the “reasonable†restrictions on CC that the People’s Collective of NY have in place.”
New York state outside the Five Boroughs is a gun-toter’s paradise compared to IL.
The precedent to be watching here is OH, who got a “Well, maybe… If we have to…” CCW law squeaked past in ’04 and have been gradually inching their way towards civilized carry ever since…
From your mouth to God’s ears, Tam.
Steady pressure works, right? Even ugly guys can get laid if they keep trying at it.
From your mouth to God’s ears, indeed, Tam. This is a victory, for sure, and I hear you about “Upstate” NY. But as a guy born and bred in Mordor, who has been up close and personal with Machine Pols for much of his life, abject cynicism is an ingrained trait. I moved to “conservative” DuPage County because my shooters make me a criminal in Cook County, and my neighbors there are knee- jerk liberal Oak Park transplants. I guy can’t catch a break. (Still convincing the Warden that we need to move to Indiana. She ain’t biting. Yet.)
I’d take that COP .357 as a backup for my CCW. Bet it’s a hand stinger though.
As Tam said, if the good folks in IL can get any kind of Shall Issue law passed, it can get liberalized later. FL liberalized theirs something like 7 times in the first several years, we in MI have done the same, as has OH. Get it in place, and when folks find out that blood truly DOESN’T run in the streets, loosen it up.
Taurus PT22. Cheap beretta knock off of the Bobcat. Need to get it to the range and see what it does.
Hopefull will be a good deep conceal. Had ruger LCP but could not hit anything with it.
If this doesn’t end up being impossible to get I will rejoice. Rockford is turning into Detroit on a bad day.
Graum,
If we didn’t have to do almost daily doctor/hospital visits (for one reason or another), and or find Vali Foods and Woodman’s the only locations to meet my sweetiehearts grocery needs, we would seldom, if ever venture into Rockford.
But knowing this state and its long term love affair with corruption (either party … doesn’t matter) and power (ditto), I expect it is going to cost you one nut and your first born male child just to get considered for CCL.
And color me cynical … err “fleshy”, but I am almost willing to bet that between the thugs of the Chicago machine and the asshats in Springfield any CCL law which happens to pass, will not get “liberalized” over time, it will become even more of a Byzantium maze. If they can find a way to screw this up…they will.
I would love to be proven wrong over the course of time. But I am not willing to bet the farm on it.
Simply put, they will appeal delaying it again, when forced to put one on the books it will cost $15,000 (we are broke rememeber) and you’ll have to pass the police academy in order to get one.
Then we will have to appeal in order to get a reasonable bill.
By that time the world economy will have collapsed and laws etc will have no meaning.
