Gun registry, Agency of Lies, and knowing what battles to fight.
Gun owners have been saddled with the GCA of 1968, now, for forty five years. Soon, the GCA of 1968 will be getting those annoying little envelopes from the AARP. Pitiably it probably will not ever retire. Thank you, Lyndon Johnson, you criminal son of a bitch. I hope that you and Walter Cronkite are having fun in Cocytus.
Pascal wonders last night why more gun nuts aren’t up in arms because of the “Firearm owners” lists the papers are publishing, and after some considerable wranglinbg, i finally managed to get him to sit still and explain it to him.
First of all, the “List” is utterly meaningless. In whatever district you choose to publish such a list, they can only consist of either people who have filled out a form 4473, or people who have gotten (as in illinois) the “Foid” type card.
See, here’s the thing.
I have filled out several 4473’s in my life. The number of firearms I own and the number of 4473’s I have filled out does not approach parity, and hasn’t all my life. Like my father before him, I have acquired firearms by inheritance, and many of those firearms are old enough that they have no serial number whatsoever. All of them, on the other hand, are fully functional- I won’t own anything I can’t shoot.
This is true of the entire nation. While firearms get lost and fall apart by attrition, it is still very common for firearms from ages past to work properly. I have shot, with modern ammunition, a Model 94 WInchester made before my grandfather was born, and not only did it work, but it worked better than my 1966 vintage model 94 does. Of just this one manufacturer, and just this one firearm, were made over 3 million units prior to 1968.
Winchester was also by no means the largest manufacturer of firearms nor the most prolific. Mossberg has made nine million model 500’s since 1961.
So the “Lists” being published are in no means an accurate representation of the actual location of firearms, and this is just by “Normal” methods of acquiring firearms. SO a powerful lot of the firearms community is not up in arms over it specifically for that reason, and that is really only the minor reason.
The major reason is it is a decoy, a sort of a potemkin village to draw the attention of the gun culture, so the Agency of Lies can use that reaction to further their cause.
The gun culture has deliberately not overtly and vocally reacted to this stupidity. We have all been to this rodeo before. We know the moment someone speaks up, the media says “SEE! THEY ALL WANT YOUR CHILDREN DEAD!!!” So we keep our mouth shut, and refuse to give them ammunition.
In the meantime, the gun culture has done some very important things. This is one of them. We have had a good record of getting people to understand just how important our rights are. We have gotten the country by their hearts and minds, and balls. Witness this. Partner and I did the gunstore run yesterday, and were as always gratified to see that Liberalism, the greatest firearm salesman on the planet, with it’s partner President Wingnuthead, had once again driven everyone to a buying frenzy. I think it’s awesome. It’s hard to find an AR or AK anywhere in the country at a reasonable price; those that are there are priced so high that I’m thinking about selling MINE at the next gunshow I attend.
No, not really.
Anyway, those who have them are seling AR magazines for $40 and up where they were $12 a month ago. ARs that were $800 a month ago flew off the shelves at $1500. And ammo is unavailable, unless you know someone. (Thankfully, I know someone)
Gunnies have been playing this game for a very long time. We would like for GCA 1968 to go away forever, but we’re making excellent progress a bit at a time, like we always have.

Yep. I’ve got three in the 7.62 round, not all the same, but they use the same bullet. The poddle pumper might just go down the road, which woulod give me some markup on some 5.56 rounds. The temptation is high, but I think I can wait. I still think I’m going to get some 6″ pvc as insurance.
Just in case.
You know, I’ve been doing some Math, and what is interesting is that most of the Anti-Gun Hysteria is coming from those Dozen or so States that have very little Gun Freedom in the First Place, mostly in the NorthEast and Mid-Atlantic States. 3/4 of the rest of the Country shows no sign of jumping on the Bandwagon. What is interesting is that Citizens are buying like they had 2 days before Noah’s Ark sails, but it is mostly in Free States.
So, if the Politician’s would do an accurate assessment of the “State of the Union,” they would find that Gun Control is not only a “Non-Starter,” but that any attempt to take away Guns would face even more Firepower than what was in Private Hands 4 years ago. The NICS system recorded 2.8 MILLION Gun Transfers from Dealers into Private Hands just last month.
So, is all this a “Dog and Pony Show” to Appease the Anti-Gunners? I don’t see the Votes happening in the House, even with RINO support. And the Heller/McDonald Rulings from SCOTUS places Arbitrary Gun Bans and Confiscation on REALLY Shaky Legal Grounds. But the Antis are acting as if they found the Holy Grail.
Maybe it’s all the Bree and Wine Crowd and their MSM Goons telling each other that “You Look Fabulous, Darling!” But unless Barry declares War on US, this Brouhaha seems to be Hot Air in August.
Of course, if The Anointed One DOES declare War on the Armed Citizen and Bullets start to Fly, well…., let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
Good thinking, Og. Gun owners are not stupid. They are also not dumb enough to call attention to themselves, but I recommend to the dimbulbs in DC that they heed the words of Admiral Yamamoto(?) during WW II, when he was urged to invade the American mainland: “This is not advisable. There is a rifle behind every blade of grass in America.” (On second thought, I hope they DON’T think of it…)
All good points. But be fair here. My primary point was that there are a lot of people who are not on that list and they now think that the newspapers are outing them as not having any guns. I know a lot of liberals who hate guns but would NEVER hang a sign on their house “Gun Free Zone” like the libs have done to schools and other public places.
My primary concern was that in that disapproval for the Agency of Lies we conservatives have another opportunity to say to the liberal “So how long before you understand that the media is the greatest threat to this country? They don’t care how many people they endanger as long as they can make trouble for perfectly innocent people.”
And as you point out above, they are also as stupid as rocks. Dangerous idiots who have control of the loud speakers. This to me provides another opportunity for convincing people to shut off their TVs and maybe read more history and conservative blogs and not have it spoon fed to them by dangerous but moronic pricks.
add “and overpaid elitist” to pricks.
See I want to be asked “why don’t you tell them what your really think.” Answer: I’m just warming up.
“My primary point was that there are a lot of people who are not on that list and they now think that the newspapers are outing them as not having any guns.”
Duh. That’s the whole point. That’s why nobod is making a big deal of it.
HAHA. Glad I didn’t wait until the last minute to stock up. I can afford to keep in practice and wait until this bubble pops. But I also considered selling one of my ARs. But I wouldn’t want to be without it if the SHTF soon. Instead, I think I’ll buy a couple more once the price drops again (and it will), just so I have a few to sell the next time Presbo opens his trap..
Or maybe I’ll buy another carbine barrel and sell my long range gun.
Pascal, it’s being pointed out; blogs and internet news sources and talking to friends: “See what these assholes have done? People who had bought a gun because of a stalker, or psycho ex or something, are looking over their shoulders because these sorry excuses for reporters are using their megaphone for political gain.
AND the chickenshits hire armed guards because ‘people are talking mean to us!’
AND, let’s note that the reporters with gun permits did NOT get THEIR address published; aren’t they special?”
Word does get around
I was at Somegunstore on Friday, and I have never, EVER, seen it like that- not when the AWB was going to be enacted, not when Barry got elected in ’08. People lined up 6 deep buying ANYTHING they could get their hands on. It was beautiful.
Innit great, Knox? Does my redneck heart good
Having invested quite vigorously in “evil” stuff for the last few years, and especially with a spike in purchasing the evening of Obama’s re-election, I find myself sitting pretty after the latest panic. And so, I too have thought about selling some stuff that I don’t really have an emotional attachment to in order to capitalize on the fever swamp, price increases I’m seeing. But…if I did…then I wouldn’t have the stuff anymore now would I? . And that would suck.

I dicked around and never finished my AR build. Lacks a barrel and bolt carrier group. Rare as hens’ teeth now. Keep an eye out for a 16 inch barrel. Maybe somebody upgraded and has an extra old one. Which I will gladly get buttfucked for.
Built 2 more right after the election. Saw something like this coming. I really f’in hate being right.
