The LeFever is as done as it’s going to get.
There’s a little music wire spring that returns the triggers that I cannot find and will have to make, but good luck finding music wire anywhere. I might have to cut the tail ends off my guitar if I can find one the same size, and then temper it with some used motor oil and a propane torch. I have oiled the stock- not like the M1 carbine but adequate to the task. I intend to hunt with it, after all. Pics to follow.

How about a hobby shop? They might have music wire. There’s that place on Rt 30 which is largely devoted to trains–same strip mall as DeLock’s Liquors–that might have it.
I do remember seeing music wire in various hobby shops that I’ve patronized over the years.
Westlakes hardware in my area.
I’ve had excellent results using automatic transmission fluid for the quench. It also makes a good light lubricant if you can stand the odor.
Find a safety pin of the correct guage and cut it down, winding extra coils if you must. I used such a spring for a sear spring in a Walther clone for years and it worked fine.
You could probably find it at HobbyLobby or Michaels crafts stores; they also make jewelry with it, string bracelets and etc.

Didn’t check, but Brownell’s used to carry spring stock.
Music store guitar-strings section?
Contact a piano shop. That is where I used to get music wire/piano strings.
My local Ace Hdwe stocks music wire in an astounding array of sizes from a few thousandths to 1/4″. Cheap.

Amazon.com bought up Small Parts Inc .awhile back. They have music wire: http://www.amazonsupply.com/music-wire/s/310355011
McMaster-Carr (they have everything) has a lot of “spring back steel wire” including 1080 carbon steel, which they claim is music wire: http://www.mcmaster.com/#music-wire/=lmhu92
yeah, I buy music wire as plumb wire on a pretty regular basis from McMaster; my issue is I need a piece 2″ long.
Og,
What size wire to you need? I have a good supply of .032″ spring steel wire, I’d be happy to mail you some if that would help.
nah, actualy I’m going to a local guitar store tonight to see if they have any old broken strings, I imagine that will work just fine if I can find the right size and temper them properly.
OK, the offer stands, I’ll mail you as big long a piece as will fit in a standard envelope, taped to a piece of cardboard. Just e-mail me.
Cool. I do appreciate it, and may take you up on that if the guitar shop doesn’t have what I need.
i have several sizes. if every other option strikes out, i’d be happy to send you several pieces of each. i’m in Boston this week, so cant until Monday.
