Without cable
yoiu find out a lot of interesting things.
I made the poor wife sit through “People will talk” a couple of weeks ago, and she decided to hunt up some other Carey Grant Movies. Last night she watched “Charade” and loved it.
I always have, too, Audrey’s flirty dialogue in “Charade” makes my pants fly around the room, I’ll tell you. But Audrey could read me the phone book and I’d be entertained beyond belief.
In her last film, “Always” she acts as a sort of a guide, helping the newly dead transition to the afterlife. I gotta tell you, if Audrey meets me after I die, COME GET ME NOW. In fact, I think I’mna reccomend “Always” to the wife next. I do like this a lot better than hearingthe strained applause of “Whose got America’s Next Dancing idol” coming from the next room.
No, I won’t watch “Always” with her. Between the dangerously petite Holly Hunter (Why is it that big guys always have a hardon soft spot for the tiny girls? ) and the ethereal Audrey, combined with Dreyfuss mooning around about never having been able to say “I love you” when he was alive, it’s just too hard to watch. But man, it’s another one of the movies that they don’t make many of anymore. Plus, John Goodman who is my brother from another mother.

I do like ‘Always’, but, I’ve got to tell you, I’m not the biggest fan of ‘old’ movies. My wife is a huge Dorris Day fan, and likes movies from that period…I just…don’t.
We tried watching ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ once, because someone told me it was one of the funniest movies EVER, but I just couldn’t get into it…the pacing felt all wrong from what I have allowed myself to accept as entertainment.
Different strokes. To me arsenic is brilliant
You were right the first time. Nothing soft about it.

“Aresenic and Old Lace” is one of my perennial favorites.
Originally they wanted Bob Hope to play Mortimer, but while it would have been funny, it simply would not have worked as well as Cary Grant did in that role.
Loved Charade. Liked Always enough to remember it and think I might like to watch it again.
I’d forgotten about People Will Talk. Good Lord, what did Cary Grant do that wasn’t good? (Or at minumum, watchable?)
“arsenic is brilliant.” Amen.
I bet your wife loved Charade much more than People Will Talk. Pass the orange instead of odd appearing old men.
If she stumbles upon N by NW, at least you’ll enjoy seeing it again. She’ll probably like Father Goose better.
Nathan:” what did Cary Grant do that wasn’t good?”
Penny Serenade. Not even watchable.
I loved ‘Arsenic’ when I was a kid; still like it, though probably wouldn’t go out of my way to see it.
I’ve introduced several people to the Thin Man movies, and all but one flat loved them; different strokes, indeed.
Nick and Nora sure made being drunk look fun, didn’t they?
God, yes.
If I thought being a fun drunk would get me someone like Nora, I’d be stockpiling booze right now.
