There will be a new Pope.
He will put on thered leather fisherman’s shoes made just for him by Stefanelli. He will be taken to a room called the Room of Tears, where he will take off his red vestments and put on the white vestments of the Holy Father.
This will be the fifth time in my life when this has happened. I have no illusions as to what the Church is, but I have always had respect for the Holy Father. And we have had some really magnificent ones; Julius II who lasted only ten years was a serious warrior,if you’ve ever seen “The Agony and the Ecstacy” he’s played brilliantly by Rex Harrison, imagine the Pope in armor climbing down, bloodied, off a horse, to approve Michaelangelo’s sketches for the Sistene Chapel.
Lord, give us another Julius II. We need one so badly.

God, what a great movie. Haven’t seen it in years.
The Catholic Church is much like the NRA. The overall good they do tends to balance the mistakes they make.
I pray the next pope does what he can to further Christianity in the world.

I was just thinking this morning about what you’ve written before (IIRC)- that many persons who question the legitimacy of the Church do so from the standpoint of “religions” started by men such as Calvin, Luther, and Knox (no relation), none of whom walked with the Christ as St Peter did, and none of whom, so far as I can tell, is a Saint. And “Amen” to another Julius II.

Tony: A bunch of people will say “Oh, the church supported Obamacare’ or ‘The church hides pedophiles” or any number of such things, and all those people are morons. The church is composed of the faithful, not bishops or priests or even popes. We have had some real doozies in all those areas and they do NOT represent the faithful.
