Francis I
May G-d guide his mind and heart.
I have loved and respected all Jesuits with whom I have come into contact. That does not mean they are all good people, but they are all smart. I would consider myself unarmed in a battle of wits with any of them I have met. I aspired to the Socity of Jesus many years ago, and I made it based on IQ and SAT scores, but my grades and finances were lacking, and that just wasn’t gonna get it.
There are a number of people that suspect the Jesuits of some intrigue, and it is not out of the realm of possibility that they are correct; what that intrigue involves, who can say.
I know I’m happy that Dolan didn’t get this gig. I’m surprised Obama didn’t claim it. And I hope that Ratzo enjoys his retirement, and that it is a long and fruitful one

I agree with you about the Jesuits. I too seriously considered the Jesuits and Priesthood when I was in High School. Graduating from a Jesuit University (USF) instilled in me a sense of honor and social responsibility, as well as respect for view other than my own. I am a better person for experiencing it.
I’m probably displaying gross ignorance here (no new phenomenon), but how do finances come into it? Once accepted into seminary, doesn’t the Church pick up the tab for education?
Lol. No.
Congrats on the new Pope. Obama didn’t claim it for himself because he was expecting it by acclamation. I think he is miffed this morning that it wasn’t handed to him on a silver platter in exchange for all the good he has done for the Catholic Church.
No doubt, his followers are still expecting his beatification… even the Atheists.
No doubt, Prof hale, no doubt.
Something tells me that the Church is about to get a Good Housecleaning.
That could very well be the case.
Hasn’t Obama walked on water? That would be a good indicator for the Anti Christ.
Prayers for the Catholic Church. It needs them.
I had one real Jesuit at the Jesuit university that I attended. He was so much smarter than the other profs, mostly Harvard Grads that it was not even a race. He threw off smarts like a Tesla cOil throws off juice. I learned more in his ethics class than all my other classes combined.
Not being a Kollije Gradoot, I have often wondered why ethics classes are useful at all. It seems to my that a person’s ethical foundations are formed before he begins his teen years. Right and wrong are not rocket science. Take for example the algore and his “no controlling authority” bullshit. An ethical person needs no controlling authority, only a demagogue would. Or a totlly amoral asshole, democrat or a little kid. But I repeat myself.

Gerry: Itr doesn’t seem difficult, but trust me on this one, business ethics is a wildly convoluted set of rules, because business ethics can get you in dutch with the law toute suite. I don’t have the benefit of that education either, but if you spend time in industry, you begin to see just how convoluted business ethics can be. The fact that you have to be constantly on guard against even providing the mere appearance of impropriety (Unless like you say, you’re a democrat) is enough to make you downright paranoid.
Ethics classes are often required for professional licensure, maybe because they aren’t taught in many homes any more. And because the State wants its filthy fingers in everybody’s bidness. Father G told us to read the Code on our own, and then he proceeded to talk about Christiam ethics using the lives and works of the great Catholic Apologists as examples, slightly disguised. When the smart- ass 20 something atheists would attempt a smack down, he’d smile carnivorously, wait until they’d finished, then cut them to fucking ribbons. And you got it Og, it’s that “avoiding even the appearance of impropriety” that screws everyone.
