A confession
FoMoCo put food on the table for the first 18 years of my life, we were always a Ford family- though we owned Oldsmobiles and Chevys as well.
Dad was a big fan of their engines and I am a big fan of the reliability. If you take moderate care of a Ford, you can drive it just about forever. I have not worn out any Ford I ever owned, I just grew sick to death of them.
So: TO Me, Ford has always been the car that gets you there. Probably not with a great deal of style. Certainly not with racecar like agility. Sure, they made sporty cars- the Probe I drove for a quarter million miles was a lot of fun. But damn, it was pretty ugly.
So it is with some degree of discomfort that I have to say:
I like the 2013 Fusion. Yes, I know, the grille (Maybe it’s best feature) is a direct ripoff of the Aston Martin, and it may or may not owe it’s shape to Hyundai, but for a midsize saloon with a reasonable amount of room for four adults, it’s not horrible looking.
There, I’ve said it, and I’ll say it again. The Fusion is not fugly.
Of course the AWD version, the only one that is really good, is not available with a manual and can only be had with a stupid flappy paddle slushbox.
I knew they couldn’t get it quite right.
Still: Not ugly.

I kind of wanted my mom to trade her Saturn in on one. Not a bad looking car. But at 85 I don’t think Mom is looking for a new car so long as the Saturn holds out.
I have a Fusion as a company car and it just might be the best company car I have ever driven.
On the other hand a free car is always a good car…
Sat in one at the past Cleveland Car Show. Not Bad.
Also remember, Ford used to own Aston-Martin, so why not use its Styling, since one paid for it in the first place?
@Joe
Here is South Africa we call a hired car a 4×4…
OG, the new paddle select shift auto box is quite innovative. Wish we could get them here… the closest we get is a Focus.
Og,
Bought my 2013 Fusion Titanium in jan. it has been a great car and my first ford. Mostly been a gm guy but they had nothing that excited me. 12,800 miles already and a very nice car! Plus, being in our business, had to get one named “titanium!”
Sweet, Rebel! Hope it treats you well.
I’m sure leaning towards Fords these days. Sis and I rented an AWD Edge Platinum to drive to MI to a funeral, and it was awesome. It sure looks like an Eco-Boost F150 is in my future as well.
Focus wagon. Bought it with 120k on the odometer. First car I ever had the oil pan rusted out on.
Otherwise seems to be a pretty good little car. I will know better in another decade or so.
From what I’m told, you just about have to special-order to get a car or pickup with standard anymore.
Which annoys me no end.
Tried to rent one to take to Toronto.
All I could get was an Impala.
The Impala sucked and we almost died from hydroplaning a puddle on the expressway.
We’re supplying the FEMs to Fusions made in the states.
Glad to hear good things about it.
I bought a 2012 Escape Limited around Labor Day of last year; it was a lease return with 16k miles, like new in all ways except the number on the odometer. I haven’t had the need or opportunity to take it on an extended nonstop trip until this weekend when I put about 400 miles on it, but I pulled back into the driveway with the trip computer telling me I got 32.7 mpg and no stops to refuel. I think I’m over any objections to Ford’s little 2.5L four-banger now.
I like it, too. It’s a very angry-looking little car.
