We all want to change the world.

Over at Eternity Road, Mr Porretto discusses (among other things) the origins of the Democrat party, and the whys and wherefores of it, and as a counterpoint (or more accurately, a corollary) Mr Alger discusses how what was once the extreme of the Democrat party is now firmly ensconced in the heart of it’s ideology.

I once spoke of the TV theory of gummint. I believe this is part of human nature: We don’t, as a rule, want to study things that are not specifically our hobbies. We want shit to work, and when it don’t work, we want it fixed. If the tv/car/toilet/blender/whatever doesn’t work, we want it to work again. We don’t want a dissertation on why it don’t work or what caused it to fail or why we can’t have it in a specific time, we want it fixed.

I have seen the left become more and more fringe, more nuts. For every single shouting point (they stopped having talking points a long time ago) one merely has to say “Prove it” and the answer is to move on to yet another shouting point. I have yet to see any concrete evidence of any of the BS that any conservative has been accused of. Period. Even if I were to learn that Scooter libby (how evil: a guy named SCOOTER!!! RUN AND HIDE FOLKS!!!! SCOOTER IS COMING!!) was complicit in something, whcih by the way, he is not, it would STILL pale in comparison to the wholesale attempt by the left to impose marxist socialism on the USA. You can talk, and talk, and talk. You can try to explain. You can whine and piss and moan and do anything you want, but the bottom line, is that having come by their ignorance of the truth the hard way, most liberals are loathe to part with it. How much longer do we have to try to ‘fix” this by normal means? When can I take Ed Asners face and pound it into a TV screen showing videotape of Stalins atrocities and say “SEE, ED? STALIN WASN”T MISUNDERSTOOD! HE WAS A FUCKING MURDEROR!!!!! Why can’t i beat some sense into the Mike Moores of the world? Can anyone tell me in any honesty that the world wouldn’t be a better place without the likes of Dan “I made the whole thing up but it’s true anyway” Rather?

No. It’s broken. I’m sick to death of it being broken. I’m sick to death of the rhetoric. Show me the button to push or the wrench to turn or the code to write to make it go away, and I’ll gladly do it.. but it’s not like that. I wish it were.

Mr Porretto speaks of education. Mr Alger speaks of putting off the inevitable. I’m all for peaceful discussion and reason. Show me ONE liberal politician capable of reason, and i’m there. Else, I’m Lot’s Wife, turned to salt, looking longingly back on my home, destroyed in a fire of it’s own creation.
