Doe. A deer. A female deer.
Laid down amidst the felled branches last night and we think gave birth. The rut was late last year so the timing is right. Not the first time we’ve had a spotted visitor.

I saw one of those just this morning. It must have been only a day or two old.
Yep..They drop them and then start running never to stop till they die. Amazing critters.
If you watch them through the summer momma always keeps junior out in front to make sure they don’t get into trouble. Later in the year or years following the younger members always lead the group.
I’ve seen family groups of 2-3 older does with 2-3 generations of off spring with them. If you can get a shot on one of the last does you will get a good fridge full of meat.
Amazing critters for something that came about through random chance, not.
They’re popping up here in PA also…my buddy posted this the other day.

They really are one of God’s beautiful creatures. But I can’t help being put in mind of cold autumn winds, roasted potatoes, and Preiselbeeren Soße.
