There are quite a few
Used, vintage shotgun/rifle cases for sale on Ebay.
here’s another
And another
These flat out sicken me. I mean make me physically ill.
the fact that these cases are on the market means that the fine, handcrafted and wonderful firearms they once protected have been confiscated or worse. the worse is too horrible to mention. JW Tolley. Charles Lancaster. PURDEY.
if it isn’t a sacrilege to destroy a Purdey it damned well ought to be.

Alternatively it may merely mean that someone’s estate sale didn’t realize there was a case until after the gun got sold separately…
in the last month or so there have been hundreds like this
I would not think confiscation. Maybe negligent care resulted in a rusted up gun that had no value, or was sold somewhere else (pawn shop) with out the case.
That or they could be blems from the manufacturer.
Not sure how to explain hundreds though.
These are old, all of them Edwardian or Victorian. A rusted hulk of a Purdey is still worth thousands of dollars. Shit, some of the battered old cases are going for thousands of dollars.
Destroying a Purdy or H&H or any of the fine handmade English doubles should not be sacrelige, it should be a capital offense, the criminals punished by public flogging, castration, being flayed alive, rolled in salt, then hanged by the neck until the carcass falls free. All persons involved must share the punishment equally, the bastiges.
