after the oppressive heat
Of a northwest Indiana summer, its nice to enjoy a little canajan cool. Evenings are downright comforter-tunneling. Even the pool is less inviting than usual.

We just got back from an Escape-the-Heat trek ourselves. Refreshing. Highly recommended.
Beat the heat? Never heard of that. It’ll be near a 100 today at home and the rest of the week as well. I just looked at NW Indiana, and it’s projected to be 70’s after today.
If I lived up there, I’d keep my longhandles buttoned up all year. Down here to beat the heat, we leave the trap door down in the summer.
I guess it’s what your used to. I hear that in England, folks are dropping out at 90 degrees due to “heat exhaustion”.
Sometimes it feels like we are 10 miles from the sun in south TX. Keep warm up there. Wouldn’t want to tempt frost bite in the middle of JULY!
Stx: show up. Indiana heat is not like southern heat. Also, if you bother to read you may notice i’m talking about last week, not this.
I have spent weeks at a time in arkansas, georgia, texas, florida, the carolinas and the virginias. Not just sitting around, either, working in industrial environments in the heat of summer. I only wear heavy black jeans and longsleeved black shirts. Southerners think they have the worst heat- they merely have more of it. And their heat is never interspersed with brutal winters.
I have an excellent 4-ton, 2-zone AC system, but this year, we’ve only had nite temps in the sixties on 4 nights so far. Low fifties is the rule, even had 5-6 nights with lows in the forties. $50 worth of fans cools the house. I start them at 9pm and run them until noon the next day, then shut the house up and coast thru the afternoon when it’s warm outside. Most days are around 85. Humidity varies.
Glowbull warmening affects only the lawn, which browns off if I don’t buy expensive Citeh water to put on it. Summer water bills can run $150/month here. My electricity summer bills are rarely over $180.
Dog, put up some barrels to capture rainwater and use that to water.
I’ve got a couple out and they fill in minutes if the rain goes for more than 15 minutes.
As to heat, heat is noticeable, but humidity kills.
Glad you got a chance to go further north. My son’s scout troop is up in the boundary waters. I hope to go on that trip when he is old enough.
Yeah. Last week was a HUMDINGER. Felt bad for Tallman. No air in the shop.
Fred!
Shhh . Freds inblogneato
Welcome to Houston. Chew the air thoroughly before you try to breathe it.
That’ll be all.

My sorry for missing the previous few days.
It is just kinda funny how the differences in geography show up. I wear long sleeves all summer, cheaper than SPF X, and they don’t smell like suntan lotion! Long pants too. May be a throw back to our raising. I too, work in the great unconditioned spaces.
When I spent a month in Montana, they were gripping about 80’s. I thought I was in heaven.
As far as winter goes, we had a rough one last year. Not enough cold air to kill the bugs off. Palmetto bugs had gray around their temples and were taking over the house, yard and shop. Christmas was 85 degrees or so.
Enjoy the chill summer air!
