Got one.
OK, so it took longer than I hoped, but the freezer will have deer meat in it in a day or so.
Have to find some butcher paper because I’m gonna try and DIY this year, the $75 processing fee being more than I wanted to deal with at present.
Feels good. One shot and down, too. There were three does crossing an open space between a contaminated area (Kingsbury is an old ammo dump) and a cornfield, I was set up in a stand close by. The lead doe was not the biggest, but not the smallest either. As I had been skunked several times this season, I wasn’t taking any chances. Managed to get it in the truck before dark, too, so I didn’t end up having to field dress it in the dark (always a hazard, as a decent knife for dressing has to be razor sharp)
It took getting my mind and soul right to get this, exactly like last year, and like last year, I got a late season animal. I’m at peace now, and ready for another year.

Good job lad. Can you post some pics for us?
Hmmmm… I was going to ask the same question that Jim just did. AND, let us know how the DIY effort works out. I really HATE those “processing” charges, & as I & the old woman do most of everything ourselves, this would be another step towards total self reliance.
Butcher paper is even inexpensive enough for this Cheap Yankee Basted.
AND, congrats on the kill.
That last line should have read “…on the one shot kill”.
Congrats og.
Someday I’m going to take one of my own. Someday.
Count me in to pay the processing fee. Did that once.
What a huge pain in the rear it turned out to be with the tools found in my kitchen.
Let’s see if it’ll let me post using some one else’s name.
You might consider turning down the filters.
It doesn’t like my email address or webpage.:(
You killed Bambi!
Congratulations!
Hot damn ! ! I don’t think any candy tastes better than fresh venison liver braised with onions. Food fit for gods.
Stuff and bake the heart then slice cold for sandwiches. MMMMMMM-mmmmm! ! !
Hard to tell which is better.
Congratulations.
I was only able to get out for one day this year (longbow) but I didn’t get anything. The friend I took got a shot but missed. We saw 6 deer and 10 or 11 elk plus one coyote so it was a good day. Congrats on the kill. I do my own every year I get one which has been every year for the last 7 years except for this year. But that’s OK my mom shot one and my Dad got three and my cousins all got at least one so there will be plenty of meat this year. My family pretty much always does there own as well. If you do it that way once you won’t want to go back because you can do a way better job than a butcher especially the bastards that use bandsaws and leave the bones in it. Bone souring is f#cking gross I hate that tatse in my meat.
Well, andy, I hope you’re right!!
Congrats. You will have good eating all winter. Fry up a steak for me.
Congratulations.
Instead of paying the money, my next-door neighbor just took the saw to it in the front yard. And he did the same thing last year.
It drives my dog nuts!
By the way, my neighbor’s son, Ryan, is in Iraq right now.
