That you just know are going to suck. Not a hard job today, but filthy, nasty, spending time in a machine dirty enough that i will have to undress and change clothes in the parking lot before i get in the car.

I am going with you habitually bringing a change of clothing to work. The alternative is the image of you driving home naked.
There is always a kit in the truck that contains clean underwear and socks, a change of clothes, a couple days worth of food, some extra, warmer clothes, a bedroll and meds for a week or so.

That sounds like my pickup, except I have a #10 tin with a small isopropane stove, a candle, a lighter, cooking and eating implements, food and beverage packets in it. I also carry at least three gallons of water.
I’ve only needed this stuff one time, but it made me a believer. Actually, if you pulled all the tools and gear hidden and stashed behind and under seats, my pickup is a good place to start a homestead.
There are axes, saws, knives, tarps, fishing & hunting needfuls, about a mile and a half of paracord, sleeping bags, half a dozen LED flashlights, and a tiny isopropane lantern. All this stuff likely weighs 10 or 15 lbs in toto.
Have you ever slid into a ditch on a road that has maybe two or three vehicles a week and couldn’t get your vehicle out?
If it happens again I and anyone with me won’t be cold, wet or hungry this time.

BTDT. I’m loaded with stuff in the truck. I carry water, oil, several candles, and… other things. yes, I have a tow strap. And a couple hundred feet of 3/4″ poly rope
The Boy Scouts call that prepared. although I do know some who think a credit card is prepared.
I need to stash some more stuff in my ride as it is getting wintery.
