The kid with the smartphone
wandering down the road while cars swerve to avoid him is the very definition of lack of situational awareness. I would have taken a picture but I was one of the cars avoiding mowing him down as he texted. I don’t know if he thought he was on the sidewalk or just didn’t care who he inconvenienced.
The most of the people living in this country are just as politically situationally unaware. They have no idea that they’re walking in the middle of the road or that they are about to be laminated to the pavement by a bus, so long as they can load the next picture of an angry cat making noises that sound like human speech.
Tis is why the most ignorant and disingenuous thing I can think of is to say “Mind your own business” We’re loaded with people minding their own business, and not doing a damned thing to pay attention to the shitstorm that is brewing. I am also amazed by the tone deafness of that statement- I mean, really? I should mind my own business? How about you following your own stupid fucking advice, asshole?
The business of civilization is all our business. While we wander down the road texting the people who are taking care of business are getting ready to mow us down. Lift your head up, moron. Look around.

Once the power goes out we will have their attention. Course then it will be too late. But we will have their attention.
See a lot of them wandering about myself. They need a keeper and a leash.
Based upon my newspaper reading of the weekly crime blotter, I long ago came to the conclusion that “keep to myself and minding my own business” is the most dangerous activity, as it has caused the downfall of many a man.
The guy gunned down at 2 a.m. in the bad neighborhood? He was just walking along, minding his own business, when bang. Here’s a guy minding his own business, eating chips on a park bench, when he was killed in arobbery:

Recently, a kid minding his own business on a school bus in Florida got badly beaten by a number of “disadvantaged urban youth.” Minding your own business; that’s Russian Roulette.
Thanks for getting it. Glad I’m not the only one
I don’t really care what other people do, as long as it doesn’t affect me one way or the other. However –
If what you are doing will cost me money or time, or harm me or mine, then it is my business and I will stop you.

Yeah, two kinds of ‘mind your own business’:
The one where you keep your nose out of how your neighbor lives, long as he’s doing the same
and
The one used by that slimy bastard Rangel; where a taxpayer dared to question him about his lawbreaking and the bastard said “Why don’t you mind your own goddamned business.”
The first is a fine thing for polite society.
The second is a tool used by bastards like Rangel to try to cover up their actions. And far too many people are willing to help.
