And this morning
I am extremely thankful that I didn’t overdo it yesterday.
Well, not as much as I have done in the past.
Anyway, the week is almost up and I go back to the grind on Monday but it has been a lovely time off, each day warmed by firewood provided by Mr B and Midwest Chick, who helped us fill our woodpile the last two years. Each time I go out to the woodpile I appreciate their contribution, and I look forward to having lower heating bills this winter because of it.
There’s little on earth that I enjoy more than sitting in front of a fire, unless it’s smelling the burning of the hardwood. When we were in Africa, burning the native exotics had a specific and distinctive smell, and I sometimes put my hands on some scraps of that wood I can use just to remember it.
Partner shared our dinner with us yesterday, and it was fine to have him here, we had PIE and watched old PBS mystery programs ( we’re both big fans of Wallender and Inspector Lewis).
And now I’m pointedly not shopping. Hope the rest of you are also that smart.

Glad you had a wonderful day. I do like me some fire. Just not sure how to put one in this house. It had one that did not draw right and I took it out. I have entertained the thought of a Franklin stove from time to time. Still, placement is an issue.
I’ve never burned any, but I’ve made knife handles with olive wood, and it smells wonderfully of olives as you work it.
There are some of the Brit shows I really like, Wallender alleges to be Svensk and is good, Lewis is nearly as good as Morse, Vera is another good one especially when she goes nuts. The miniseries such as “Downton’s Abbey”, “The Paradise” and “Selfridges” bore me to tears. I miss “Waiting for God”, that one was a gut buster. “Midsomer Murders” and “Foyle’s War” would be quantum leaps better if each episode was complete in itself.
