This is why I want a diesel.
I use Platinum plugs just so I don’t have to change plugs that often- if I didn’t I’d be changing plugs every couple months.
As is, they get swapped at about 100,000 miles- though I let these go almost 130,000.
The truck was older when I got it and I knew it had some issues. These are textbook plugs for the quarter of a million miles that are on this truck, it could use valve stem seals but it’s not worth the aggrivation. I load the new ones up with copgraf and put them in.
It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? I had sliced two knuckles open by the time I got to plug #2, and that was on the EASY side.
I am a little ashamed to admit that the batteries on my LED trouble light had crapped halfway through the “Easy” side and I did the hard side by feel, faster. Why can’t they bring the damned Hilux here? I LOVED that little truck.

I would like one of those hi luxes as well. 40mpg in a 4×4. What is not to love.
I had a 4 runner once and might have bought one of the crates that you could get on e-bay that was the front half of a diesel 4-runner from japan. 4,000 per copy slowed me down some as I did not like the riding position in that car very much.
It was a awesome 4×4 though.
Guy at my range just bought a Jeep Cherokee with a 3.8 L diesel V6. 34 MPG (actual) on the highway and it ain’t broke in yet.
He says that Dodge will be bringing it out in the 1500 soon.
Not a Hilux, but those make the EPA get a pissy about clean air and all that…(not that they are dirty, they just don’t meet the NOX rules)
The Cummins (and Powerstroke and Duramax) is nice, but for a lot of folks it is too much motor in too much truck.
yeah, if I even had ten days of use for a big truck each year I’d consider one.
I have driven the jeep Liberty with the diesel, and it’s not bad, but the mileage is less than the gas engine. I’m curious to see the new Cherokee.
My hunting partner kludged an Isuzu 4 cyl. diesel from a genset into a VW pickup that the engine had seized up in. He got the Genset for $100 and the VW for $250. He was laid off and did the swap in three days of cussing and calling hexes on the Japanese and the Germans. On the other hand that Frankenpickup still gets 45mpg and runs like a top.
