Big project upcoming.
I have a nice rifle, a McGowen barreled Interarms Mark X on a plain jane stock. It shoots well but the trigger is not so great, and I have had some issues getting the scope solidly mounted (To my satisfaction). I bought a Timney trigger at the show, and got a promise of a hot new stock, and found a really nice American made Bipod, even found a nice scope mounting system guaranteed to lock down tight. SO in upcoming posts I will describe in detail with pictures the transformation of the old and plain to a nice midrange rifle.

I’ll be highly interested in tracking that project, and I’ve a similar one in the works.
Few years back, I obtained a “virgin” Zastava receiver, exactly the same as the Mk.X / Charles Daly / Remington stamped variants. Except that, this one only has the small word “Zastava” and a serial number stamped thereon.
This past July, I bought a Mk. X in .30-’06 as a “donor” rifle for it’s bolt and trigger guard/magazine. I wanted the steel version, not the alloy, and scored.
I’m ordering a Shilen barrel for it, 24″, medium sporter, in 6.5 mm, and it’ll be chambered in 6.5×55 Swede.
Some engraving and gold inlay will go into the project. I’ll have to save up a LOT for the kind of stock blank I have in mind.
I’m reduced my trigger options down to Timney or Canjar. Rifle Basix is a close third, but I just don’t know enough about them.
My intention on this project is that it ends up being that once-in-a-lifetime, “bespoke” rifle. An heirloom, even though I’m sans offspring.
But, I’ll also seriously hunt with it. It’s not gonna be just a safe queen.
Oh, and on another topic? Would you know any good sources for a good, used hard-sided O/U shotgun case, for a two barrel (12ga & 20ga) set?
Finally, if you get a chance, post some more details on that scope mounting system on your project. I’ll surely want to know if your find will fit my plans, well before I invest in any other system.
Thanks!

Jim: The case you want is waiting for you at jeff’s outfitters. Made in Mexico, the leather is good and the quality is first rate.

Beautiful cases there, Og. Might just buy one, as they’re priced right, even though they DO cost about half or more of what I paid for the gun.
Mossberg’s current O/U, made in Turkey, with both 12gs and 20ga bbls and forends.
Walked out of T’s Guns & Ammo, on their last day of business, as he was retiring. By way of thanking me for all I’d bought and customers referred over the years, he gave the set to me, NIB, walk-out price of $750.
It’s no Berretta Onyx, but then again, it’s not $4,500, either.
I’d be quite happy with a used Browning case, but even on eBay, they’re going for $250ish, for any 2 bbl. case.
I’m patient, I’ll find one, or buy from your link. It’s saved in my favorites now, and thanks!

I have a Stevens 110 in 30-06 and have often thought of upgrading it some what. Just the damn thing is accurate the way it is and pretty easy to carry so I might just watch your project instead.
