In conversation the other night
it was brought up that we might be in a sort of modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.
That isn’t, I don’t think, the case. Sodom was destroyed because it was loaded with evil; the decent people just up and left.
We seem to be in a death spiral where the “Progressives” have taken over and the nation- the planet, even- is going downhill and nothing short of a miracle will retrieve us.
It is my opinion- or at least the opinion is forming in my mind- that the root cause of this is the cavalier attitude we have displayed towards human life. Another conversation, via email, compares abortion to slavery, and that one sticks hard and begins to make other pieces fall into place.
In this article, you can see the comparison.
Even more telling is how vociferously people claim this not to be true. The kicked dog, as they say, yelps loudest. This deserves and requires some more meditation.

Not sure about Sodom and Gomorarh. I think there are place that match them. Used to be people could come to the USA to get away from what they did not like. Now it is here.
Maybe I need to yelp louder.
Where can I “Up and leave” to?
Seriously, the USA was the last bastion of decency and civilization because of our Constitution and the fact that there was a more or less Christian moral code.
Now there is neither.
Where else will I go?
Exactly. Outside of space, we have no place left to go. We have to fix this. The “normal” methods are not working. It is time to try something different; the fact that we cannot change the “Effect” means maybe we need to look at the “Cause”. I personally think there is a good case to be made that the cause is our callousness to the slaughter of innocents.
Agree on the nature of the cause. Recently heard a talk making a distinction between evolution and Darwinism. Evolution is consistent with Christianity, Darwinism intentionally tries to remove God from Creation. Couple that with moral relativism, and there can be NO regard for life at any stage. And the rest follows…slavery, abortion, Holocaust, Stalins Famine, Mao’s Cultural Revolution, etc. Read Paul Johnson’s “Modern Times”. I acknowledge that Christianity has a lot to answer for with the Inquisition, Crusades, 30 Years War, but it has also created schools, hospitals, orphanages etc. What has atheism ever done but provide the rationale for untold slaughter?
Oh, and thanks for the link to the slavery comparison. Good article.
Yep, good link and we’re out of places to go… We either fix it, or go down with the ship… And it’s taking on water in a HURRY…
Did you ever play a game in a sport where you literally felt the tide of the momentum turn from one team to the other? Watching it as a fan is a shadow of being on the field and either feeling all the energy drained as the other team gets the upper hand, or feel the sudden adrenaline when the upset’s afoot.
I don’t know if it’s all the good people of Sodom left, they just decided to let things be since we can’t cause conflict by calling them wrong, and we have our truth, they have theirs, who am I to judge their actions, so let’s call good bad and bad good, what is sweet sour and what is sour sweet. You know, I’m going to have to reboot my blog, even if I only have Og for a reader.
I had an interesting chat with a friend about being anti-abortion from an atheistic view point.
Her point (if I can do it justice in this space) is “name me another species that systematically kills off its young”. It’s illogical to the point of stupid, and it’s either done for selfish reasons, or in lock step with environmentalist propaganda that humans need to go extinct. To think it’s a proper thing to do for the planet requires more faith in “environmental science” (air quotes) than most Christians display they have in God.
Looked at in that way, we’re being punished for being stupid. And you know what Heinlein said about the only universal crime being stupidity.
