All the times I was ever around Barkley
I spoke Dog. or at least, understood enough of it to know exactly what he was saying.
it was simple enough, his speech consisted of OH BOY! OH BOY! OH BOY!!!!!!!!
Never was a dog happier to just have you around, never was a dog more excited that you were just there.
it sucks that the last time I saw him, I didn’t know it was the last time, hanging out at the super secret headquarters, watching him splash in his pool. it makes you understand better, that you should be all you can be, whomever you’re with, each time, because each time really could be the last.

Could be the last time you see anyone. Not to be morbid, but anytime can be the time.
I try to ascribe to that thought.
I’ve read it all, everywhere that Barkley has been remembered in passing.
For one, I’m sad. Never knew the pup, but I’m sad, all the same.
For another, I’d have loved to have known him. Just because, irrepressible doggy love.
Look, I’m a cat guy, life and living wise. But, I love a good dog, and I have a huge awe as regards the truly good dogs, the ones that transcend species, and are as much US, as they are THEM.
I’ve known both cats and dogs like that, and they are truly, in the correct meaning of the word, awesome.
God’s miracles, on four padding paws. His gifts to us abound, and we’re so very blind to so very many of them.
Godspeed, Mister Barkley. I’ll hope to meet you, later, one fine day.

Maybe he loved this group because we all smelled faintly of Amish bacon, but I’d like to think he just loved us, for US. I’m glad you got to know him. The day I took him in for the results of his test, I had no idea it would be his last, though the days prior had me pretty worried. We got to say goodbye, and he left us with a full tummy of the “good” food, too many treats, pats and my eyes looking into his while I uttered the silly nonsense that made him wag his tail. May we all be so fortunate.
