Wingnuthead continues to cram his nose where it doesn’t belong.
Now he’s trying to change overtime rules for salaried employees. Monkey. Is there any stupid thing this idiot won’t do?
Oh, yeah, he married that thing, didn’t he? Nevermind. Sorry I asked.

And here I thought Salary was for people who by the nature of the job did not get overtime for a slightly richer pay check when the hourly did not get overtime.
I wish the wingnut had spent a little more time in econ 101 over classic marxism.
Wingnuthead does not seem to understand the basic concept of “exempt” vs. “non-exempt” employees. We recently had to change the status of an employee at the building I help manage because he did not actually qualify under FLSA guidelines to be an exempt employee.
The result was that he got cut to 35 hours/week (but we raised his salary so he didn’t lose any dollar value), and we can still call him in to work half a day on the weekend or at night if needed.
The article I read seems to indicate that even if Wingnuthead issues these executive orders, they are unlikely to change much because there will be almost immediate litigation out the wazoo.
The interesting part will be on contracts that are FFF… And I don’t think what Nathan brought up is an ‘isolated’ incident!
It’s not isolated at all. One of the offices in the building was paying all of its clerical employees as exempt for years. A new manager came in and discovered that they were violating FLSA by doing that. So everyone in that office got reclassified.
I only had to reclassify one guy. There were six involved in that office.
Interestingly enough, even though I am not “management” per se, I am exempt at my real job as a software engineer under the “professional” clause of the FLSA.
It’s a clusterfuck of governmental proportions.
We got reclassed last year. Total PIA. From what I gather, we do the same type work… Getting our customer’s up on some system or other.
We got moved down a tier on pay (salary non-exempt), and lost a bonus percentage. They didn’t change our pay, but that guaranteed I’ll never see a raise again. I’m past the top of the lower tier. At least they gave us the percentage we lost as part of base pay. I finally caught up to the 5% pay cut that we took in 2008.
It’s time to reset our gubmint to 1782 +/-.
