Derby Day
Wife and I went to OTB Saturday to place a bet or two and watch the Derby. While I love horses and I find horseracing fun to watch- for the two minutes it lasts- I have no skills and no luck. I know a few guys who have made a few dollars betting on the ponies, but I couldn’t box a $3 trifecta and win a race with three horses.
The wife actually did box a $3 trifecta and win a race with four horses, one was obviously such an also ran it was a clean bet- for her.
We didn’t win anything else, my handicapping skills are worse than useless. But it was fun watching people yell at the TV screens and go nuts. We’ll have to go up to Arlington some day so she can watch them in person.
I used to love to drive up to Dairyland too, but I always wanted to adopt about a hundred dogs and bring them home- and give them a couple cheeseburgers, poor skinny bastards. And they’ll let you, too, dangit.

I can pick a good work horse. A fast nag not so much.
I used to like watching various forms of racing, but I don’t seem to seek it out any more.
Guess I am one of the Plebiscites.
The attention span thing gets to me. The racing is fun, the waiting around not so much.
Yep…Unless you like watching the critters watching the critters, then things can be pretty interesting.
I like giving strangers back stories. That can pass the time.
That’s kinda why OTB is more fun because there is almost always a race going on.
On my way to customers’ facilities for onsite work, I’ve driven by the Louisville track more times that I can remember. Just never interested. Now put those little sawed-off bastards on bikes (and they do, in MotoGP, Superbike, et. al.) & I’m interested.
