“Go ahead! Vote for YOUR GUY!”
and just SEE where that gets you!!!
Man, am I tired of hearing this bullshit. The number of commenters who have come here and pissed all over my Sugar Pops because I wouldn’t vote for Luap Nor or some other obscenity is boggling. “So go ahead and vote for whatever idiot YOUR PARTY puts forth, and see where that gets you, because he will be JUST AS BAD as the other guy”
Sigh. I really ought to slap people when they say that; the stupidity that it entails is epic in nature.
1: I have no “Party”. I have been a registered Democrat since the 80’s. Do you think the founding fathers were so fucking stupid and naïve to think that the system wouldn’t be gamed? The system is DESIGNED to be gamed. The REASON there aren’t “Republican” and “Democrat” votes but there is a “Republican” and “Democrat” primary is so you can overwhelm the “other” party by making sure no electable person can get nominated. The Democrats have been doing it for YEARS and most people are too fucking stupid to realize it. Sure, the system isn’t that good, and it relies on the primaries in too many bluestates, but even in the bluestates if sane people got off their halfmoons and got to the polls we could nominate better candidates. I tend to think of elections in term of “Us” and “Them” where “Them” is leftist statist ruling class criminals, and “Us” is anyone who has to work for a living or has anything that can be referred to as “Morality”. Those definitions cross all party lines and I don’t know but a handful of people smart enough to realize it, they think they HAVE TO BE a republican or a democrat or a greenie or a libertarian or whatever. Sorry, I don’t fit into anyone’s mold of what I should do or how I should think.
2: I’m not a Libertarian because I just don’t place that much interest in dopesmoking. It relieves your pain? Awesome. Don’t care. besides, the Democrat party is now the party of dopesmoking, and I bet that leaves about fifteen hundred wookie suiters carrying ron paul signs.
3: Staying away from the polls- both in the primaries and in the elections, is what got us here. Everyone thinks this is a game that can be won or lost in an election cycle, and it’s just not. We did not get from Reagan to Obama in an election cycle, and we won’t get back in an election cycle. In fact, we’d be lucky to get there in a hundred years, because the deck is stacked and the game is rigged. Instead of whining about how “our” candidate is so horrible, and he’s JUST AS BAD as x, and how “I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR YYY! BECAUSE IT WON”T CHANGE ANYTHING” remember you have to lie to yourself three times to do so: If you do not know the person personally, be it bush or gingrich or Romney or whoever, you are basing that “Horrible” on your perception of that person based on what the media has told you to think, and like a good little sheep, you comply. That’s lie one. “he’s JUST AS BAD” is lie two, and it’s the stupidest lie of all. Not even identical twins are exactly the same and if you think Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney would govern in the same way as Hillary Clinton, I have something I need for you to do: Take a piece of cardboard the size of a business card, and write “Breath in! (Over)” on one side, and “Breathe out!(Over)” on the other side. Keep this card with you, you’re going to need it. “”VOTING WON”T CHANGE ANYTHING!!!” is lie three, and in it is the seed of all of this ignorance. Voting is not about changing things- at least it’s not about making a choice and making everything right. That just isn’t going to happen, and you had better by god get used to it.
Staying away from the polls has allowed the left to get us here. We have no business bitching as a nation about how badly it sucks because we have allowed it to get here by staying home and bitching instead of doing anything. You want change, I mean really want change, there are several things you are just going to have to accept.
1: Things will not get better soon. They may not get better in your lifetime. Man up and deal with it. DO the work so OTHERS can benefit. Like your parents generation and their parents generation, make the sacrifices now so that your grandchildren live in a better world. If you don’t intend to have grandchildren then think of your friend’s grandchildren, you selfish bastard.
2: You will have to do a lot of unsavory things to make any change happen. And that includes voting for people you may personally find repugnant. Remember you only know about that person what they media tells you about them, so temper your judgement with the sure knowledge that the media are a bunch of assholes.
3: you cannot think of winning. You cannot even imagine that you can win, because for now, maybe for ten years, maybe for a generation, you cannot. Oh, you need to get some candidate elected, that’s important, but with the crop of candidates available today, it’s not exactly a win, most times. No, the critical thing is not for “Us” to win, but for “Them” to LOSE.
This is how it’s been done TO us, we need to have the cohesion and unity to do it “To” THEM.
There will never be a “revolution” and if there were, WE would lose.
There will never be a “Third party” candidate that can be elected at a national level for “Us” because the media will never let it happen. The only thing that WILL happen is a spoiler will come along and fuck things up (cough)Ross Perot(cough).
And don’t even get me started on lunacy like “Voting is immoral”. The willful evil that that statement entails is beyond hope and probably beyond the reach of anyone sane.

Well said.
I hear this guy call in to local and national radio shows. Ken from Livonia.
Couldn’t pull the lever for Romney.
Complains about losing his health care.
I love calling in after him and pointing out that it’s sad he can’t make the connection.
I’ve printed this one out, and will distribute to some known-to-be-ignorant-people, forthwith.
There is a power to ink on paper, that often transcends just sending them a link.
Well reasoned, and well written, Og. A respectful salute to you, from a former USAF puke on Armed Forces Day.

Well said Sir, WELL SAID… sigh
If ever you need encouragement to vote, look in other places, where people actually risk their very lives to cast a vote. And they get in line and stand there for HOURS to do so, they walk many miles, they show up and do brave things.
When you see that, it makes our complaints pissy whining. When’s the last time you put your life on the line to vote? Go.
Jenny
As I have stated, voting FOR the lesser of the two evils doesn’t help either. THe GOP takes that as acceptance of their candidate, and treats it like a mandate from the party “faithful”. Were that untrue, we’d not have had Rommney as a candidate in the next cycle after the McCain debacle.
As for “I won’t vote for XXX”. True, the media paints them as bad, but their won statements, and more importantly, their voting record, makes them what they are.
Again, until the RNC chooses to put forth candidates who are acceptable to the base, they will have lower turnouts and continue to lose. Which may well be their goal.
Placing “less bad than the other guy” candidates is a guarantee to lose, as we have seen in the previous two elections. We disagree on this, you and I, but the fact remains that the RNC stifles any viable candidates in favor of their chosen, despite the fact that their “Chosen” cannot win….And voting for the establishment candidate hasn’t made a difference for the past few cycles, has it?
Not gonna play your game and snipe your blog, but I did feel the need to comment.
I’m out.

B: I know you’re smarter than that. You know the things you say are lies, and you continue to say them as if they were true. Why? What does it benefit you? I have a plan. It will work, and i can prove it. What is your plan?
And I never play games.
Og,
I have noted my views on political strategy here before; except for minor differences in emphasis, we are in agreement. I do think it worthwhile to point out that those who wish to make the political party system in America work to a specific objective need to do more than simply participate (vote). Holding party office, organizing campaign events, gathering valid signatures for legislative/initiative support efforts, voter registration, these are all examples of how an individual develops greater influence (sometimes much greater) than just that enabled by their individual vote. People (like B. apparently) often don’t realize just how much of elective office politics takes place far in both time and distance from the polls on election day.
And Og; you should play games more, it exercises the muscles with much less blood on (and from :)) the knuckles. I appreciate the latter, I do, but you learn so much more about leverage the other way.
I never had the patience. And I just don’t get the point.
Amen! I vote every chance I get. Sometimes, I know it’s in a Losing Cause, because the Winner has to look at all the Votes he/she DIDN’T get, and factor that into their next run for Office.
Unless they’re so Vile like Waco Benghazi Clinton, who wants her finger on the Button so bad…..
If Clinton was the best choice, I would vote for her. Anty7hing else is to miss the point of the electoral process.
Double high-fives and a belly-buck, Og!
I’m starting to think you believe my Ralph Nader votes were cast in vain.
Vman, nothing you ever do is in vain, if it becomes grist for your mill.
I don’t believe that what I posted are lies…If I did, I wouldn’t post them.
And I still haven’t seen any cogent argument that what YOU say is true, or that your philosophy (re: voting) works. In fact, based upon the previous elections, I would have to say that it doesn’t.
I don’t believe anything. I can prove what you said are lies; are you willing to learn? I can prove what I propose will work. Are you willing to listen? This is not about beating people up, this is about having an intelligent discussion. YOU are one of the people I know to be capable of intelligent discussion. That is why I make the comments and posts that I do, not to be an ass, but to have this conversation, because it is an important one.
I will be out all day, not returning until late tonight, at which time I may well be exhausted. You want to have this discussion in public or private, I’m ready, but today is out and tomorrow night the kid graduates so it will not be for a couple days.
Post your arguments or opinions or proof here, in a forum you control.
Be clear though, unlike your comments to my posts.
I’m open to seeing your beliefs. Convince me.
I have no beliefs. Only facts. I will post them as soon as I have the time.
Duh. My reading comprehension rapidly approaches zero.
