Will it ever end?
Probably not. I now have at least four trees to cut down, and one still on the ground from last year to cut up and discard. Due to the wood on the ground I have not mowed the back slope in over a year. I could use a little help but have you ever tried to find a kid to help you mow lawns etc? I have one kid I know, I asked his parents and they haven’t gotten back to me. Be nice to take a couple swipes at this. Lord knows I don’t have the energy to do it myself anymore.

Say the word…we can get the winch and cut the tree up and drag it up the slope
In looking for a neighborhood kid (I am surrounded by retirees) to help with exactly what you describe (and I probably have a smaller lot than you) it turns out that the boomerang kid of a friend and neighbor of mine across the street is more than willing.
At thirty some, he can only get part time work moving furniture.
I discovered this after having done the work.
It’s the thought of all the work piled up that saps the energy out of me.
I will be taking you up on that b.
Ed, that’s an interesting thought.
I think it is age vs ambition.
I have plenty of ambition, but age seems to limit the delivery.
We are starting to break in the boy to be they mower control unit. He sometimes seems to have less energy than I so we will see how this goes.
And it’s the fact that it never, ever ends, you can’t ever get done or get ahead of it, it just is.
Joan Rivers summed it up best on a similar subject: “I hate housework! You make the beds, you do the dishes and six months later you have to start all over again.” :D
Yard work is even worse. You rake and prune and trim and mow and five minutes later you got it to do all over again. Mother Nature is stubborn.
It’s particularly bad if you have any kind of organizational/OCD tendencies: Back when we lived on a lot with a pool, I spent entirely too much time skimming leaves out of it. (Next door neighbors had a silver maple, one of the trashiest trees in the world.) I would make it perfect and then while I was looking at it a leaf would drift down and mar the perfection of the pool. Did I mention Mother Nature is stubborn?
Glad you’re getting some help, Og.
