back in the cretaceous
when TV and comedy shows were new, Ernie Kovacs did a thing called the Nairobi Trio, three guys in ape suits and overcoats pretending to do “Solfeggio”.
Then the earth cooled, and tv was broadcast in color, and Harry Nillssen reprised the apes in “Lime and the Coconut” probably, I assume, an homage to Ernie.
Always makes me giggle. Then, down at the bottom of the ‘Related videos’ was Brudda Iz, who I hadn’t heard in ages.
Man, what a voice.

Brudda Iz gives me cold chills on that one.
But for a Super Bowl commercial with this cover of Over the Rainbow, I would’ve never heard of Iz. Some of the best singers I’ve had the honor to hear have toiled in near or total obscurity, yet Nicky Minaj and Miley Cyrus screech on for millions of fans and make mega-bucks. Sad to see has passed, but no douby he was loved and appreciated by the people who mattered. Here’s hoping the good Lord smiled upon him, and a prayer for his kind soul.
