Eleven
serious, feels like birdshot yellowjacket stings, and now they’ve had a chance to show up, eight additional less intense ones that I didn’t even feel at first. I damned sure do now, they itch like crazy. At one point this afternoon I contemplated lying on a gravel driveway and scooting like a dog with worms, the stings itch so badly. So I came home to stand in the hot shower for a while, and now I’m barely trying to scrape the hide off my back.
Still feverish, though. The dreams last night were messed up. In one I was being deported to Poland, despite my not being from there.

Yellow jackets can sting. Eleven of them? That is close to a toxic dose of their venom, even if you aren’t allergic to them.
Dreams where you are made to do something that is, on its surface, not logical are the worst.
Nine is my personal best. It happened a long time ago, but I seem to remember using ammonia or Sting Kill to alleviate the itching. With 19, you may be beyond help.
Actually the ld50 is around 1000 stings
Id rather not do that.
Might be a bit late, but next time try some bluing – the kind used for laundry
I’ve heard that and I’ve also heard meat tenderizer
Nothing you can do about the nest?
im gonna locate some openings and get some pyrethrin.
“Ammonia”? I’d trust in some kind of steroid or antihistamine cream before I put ammonia on it. In Japan they take that to mean “pee on it if you have nothing else.”
Meat tenderizer is mostly MSG, and some of the glutamates are neurotransmitters.
“Laundry bluing”–so you’d be covered with blue polka dots?
…are you sure these cures aren’t more for the amusement of those around the afflicted?
I know ammonia will stop or slkow down the stinging of jellyfish.
I used Chlorox. I had a nest fall on my arm. Too many to count. I was way younger then.
No envy from south Texas….
Just please don’t try a mercury rub :-)
I have used (new) 9v batteries. Spit on the spot and held the battery so the sting spot is between the terminals.
Might be a placebo but it seems to work.
Maybe the electricity does something to the venom.
I have never used it on multiple stings.
Tried it after reading about treating snakebites on dogs with a stun gun.
I did not want to use a stun gun on myself so I used a battery.
Best thing for insect stings is clay mask; the kind that women use on their faces to pull out impurities. As it dries it pulls out whatever is in your skin. Works on bee, yellowjacket and scorpion stings. In a pinch, a paste of baking soda and water will do the same thing, just not as well as the clay.
As for jellyfish, hell if I know. I remember getting hit by jellyfish as a kid, and there wasn’t anything we could do for that.
The more you get to write about this, the more convinced I become that renting an apartment remains the right choice for me.
Have you considered a large can of hair spray and a zippo? The stings will still itch after, but you sure won’t fail to notice them going in. :)
Benadryl. The liquid kind.
Like they sang in the 60’s hit …
“It’s gonna take an ocean … of calamine lotion … ”
You should probably buy both of these items by the case. Just saying.

who feels your pain (and is allergic to stings)
Reminds me of this classic Calvin & Hobbes:
