The Oglet fences
close by here today; not close by enough that it’s a come and go thing, we’ll have to drive a couple hours. But it will be the first time we’ve seen her since August.
She has been eating from the school’s lavish cafeteria for a couple months now, and has been wearing the same very tight clothes she went to school with. And she hasn’t spent a dime of the cash in her account, which means she hasn’t gained the freshman 15.
I suppose fencing and powerlifting four days a week plus tournaments is going to affect that but I’m particularly pleased. And I’m happy to be able to see her again as she may not be able to come home for thanksgiving.

Enjoy, even vicariously, the oglet’s match. And be glad she’s frugal! :-)
Hope you’ve enjoyed the fencing match and getting a visit with the Oglet especially.
I never understood the freshman 15. I lost weight as a freshman. Some was muscle mass as I wasn’t baling hay anymore when I got to school but there is a lot of walking or biking on a big campus just to get to classes.
Good to see the kids. Takes about 18 hours one way on the road, but I would head out tomorrow if needed.
Glad she is not gaining the weight.
The cafeteria is another scam the school uses to fleece parents. They require students to buy meal plans then serve crap that students won’t eat. I saved hundreds when daughter started second year and could skip that.

Interesting – Haven’t been able to comment here for a couple of years and all of a sudden I can again.
Quick one for you, Og, if the Oglet is fencing you(and she) won’t have to be concerned about her gaining any weight.
When I was fencing it was not unusual to lose three or four pounds during a tournament. Fencing is probably one of the most physically demanding sports there is. Also it’s really one you can practice for yor entire life.
The best fencer I ever saw at our little facilty was probably in his sixties(he had fenced in the ’36 Olympics for Hungary). Dude never moved up or down the strip; just stood there and beat everybody who tried him.
