Friday morning:
The lady who drives me administratively, tired of the drama up in the front office (Which we call Estrogenland) moved back amidst the guys in engineering. She’s been there before but there has been a good deal of moving around, she took advantage of it by getting out.
Friday afternoon: My erstwhile “boss” (Nobody wants to admit to that job title) wanders through and loudly yells “I don’t give a flying fuck what that cunt at (xxx customer) wants, we will provide what we quoted!!!”
As he wanders by my cube I comment, as quietly as I can: “Remember we’re not alone back here anymore”
Him: “What? Oh her? She’s heard this all before, she can handle it”
me: “Regardless. I know you to be a gentleman, and she’s a lady”
him: …
later, him: “Oh, by the way…. ”
me : “Yes?”
Him: “Thanks for the reminder”
Sometimes people surprise you, and it only takes a little reminder. From some people I would have expected indifference or sarcasm, but some people will actually take that kind of suggestion to heart. Much as I rant etc here I try to treat women-hell, everyone- with respect due them in person. it’s not so hard, and it makes the world better.

Uh huh.
I swear in front of my wife more than I do most other women, but then again most other women aren’t around when I’m painting (last weekend’s project), plumbing, yard-working, furniture-moving, or other activities that involve minor injuries, spills, foulness, etc. Sometimes I manage to catch myself and all that comes out is “fuuuuuuuuuu”, or if I’m really clever it’ll be “fuuuuuunny thing happened yesterday”.
I’ve been accused of being old-fashioned. Yeah, and?
Ya know, thanks!!! That is really not a bad idea…as this ol retired Sailor cusses far more than is necessary while at work (in the back room/warehouse area, but still… just because one has become accustom to the use of corse language (by either gender) doesn’t mean there are others who still attempt to hold to a higher standard of verbiage. Yeah, there is a time and a place for even the most colorful of language…but for the most part, in public, or in mixed work spaces….a little self discipline is not a bad thing.
And for the record, my better half can just about out cuss me…and some of our arguments…real paint peelers.
But your point about attempting to be more civil….yeah…not a bad thing…again, thanks for the reminder/heads up.
It’s a wise man that takes a rebuke and looks at it objectively. Can I learn from this? No matter who it is that is correcting me? You can tell the measure of a man by that, and almost, that alone.
That’s what I thought, too.
Good call.
