Don’t know and don’t care what keeps people in for the day after the super bowl- hangover, weather, whatever- but the parking lot, when I got to it, monday morning, was mostly empty. Now we’re talking about probably a hundred acres of tarmack here, that had recently been repaved, and not a parking block in sight. Oh, there were a few stop signs, but not like those were going to be hard to spot. And they had plowed really early, so there was about a solid 4″ of snow. Custom made for hooliganism.
So I slid around the lot for a while, until the security guards came out and told me to knock it off. After doing about a dozen donuts of their own. And then they chased me to my parking place with their lights on and sirens going.
Using a well made, well balanced car to do this sort of thing is a hoot, but using a tall, top heavy AWD suv and making it move like a fiddler crab on speed is nut tingling fun.

Times and places like that are perfect for fathers to teach their young how to drive on snow. Spin-correct-repeat.
I learned to drive in Ohio. In those days, there was one mall, closed at 5 and on Sundays, so no parking lot lights. On Sunday afternoon when it was icy, we used to go there and do donuts in the parking lots. I had a Corvair, you can imagine the fun I had.
Oh, yeah.

Damn, that sounds like fun! I’m sure the times I’ve done similar in the rain, just don’t compare.
Hope they had a nice warm workspace awaiting you, along with a good pot o’ hot coffee, on standby.

I learned donuts in a 1974 Ford LTD. With the 400 and C6. We had UIL meets every few weekends, and my buddy showed up with his parents 1972 Caprice. He taught me on the gravel parking lots. Too much fun. Grew up on dirt roads so I got to practice all the time.
Came in handy in a thunderstorm near Santa Fe, NM one year. So much hail on I25, it was like black ice. I skidded about 20 degrees from sideways at 70. Both feet on the floor, steer into the skid, missed an idiot on the center line doing 10 mph in an Impala. Didn’t lose control when I hit dry pavement. I had weak knees for an hour after that. There were several roll overs after that patch of ice, but not me.
Took my son to work one morning, and made him spin with a 4wd GMC Yukon in an icy parking lot till he was almost late for work.
It was TRAINING!!

Back when I worked for, well, somebody, we had to go through “driver school” every third year if we drove an agency vehicle. Afternoon of day 3 was always the skid pad for grading on “skid correction management”.
After my first visit to “school” I was banned from the skid pad. Something about 720 degrees of rotation with a Crown Vic…
Try 3500 GMC van. Like getting an elephant on roller skates.
65 Dodge Dart with bald recaps, best mate in the car while parents at the matinee, just plowed parking lot, 14 years old. We still laugh about that, my buddy and I.
