hilarity proceeds apace
Im in the process of emptying my garage in preparation for pouring a new floor.
I am startled by how much shit i have accumulated.

You got rid of a barrel full of junk while I was there, and I was impressed that you had that much junk in your garage in the first place, considing you park both Ogmobiles in it.
Why a new floor?
I had to move a few years back and on purpose built a smaller shop than what I had to force me to cull some of the useless crap I had accumulated over 40 years.
One mans useless crap is anther mans gold.
So, whose 4-car garage did you rent to hold all the stuff you’re pulling out of your 2-car garage?
Floor has been busted up and uneven since day zero. Im trying to throw stuff out rather than store it.
A while back I attempted to clear out my garage and had to quit after five minutes because I knew all those things by their first names and couldn’t go on.
I am NOT a hoarder, I can stop any time I want, it’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I’ve done it a thousand times.
I don’t have a garage – it was converted to a master bedroom suite by the previous owners. But the basement and crawl spaces and 2 sheds… oh boy. Fortunately the sheds get cleaned out, or at least reorganized, a couple times a year. The basement and crawl spaces on the other hand… What goes in there mostly stays in there. Went down there a while back with the idea of spending a couple hours hauling stuff out. It didn’t work out.
I once went to a friend who was moving to help him clean out his garage. He was walking around in a half-daze, nearly teary eyed. He just could not figure out where to start and what he could part with. His son and I collaborated on the project and mostly ignored the sputtered “but.. but… but” comments.
Another friend who was cleaning out her mom’s place gave great advice that I have yet to heed: “You’ve got to start 5 years before you need it finished.”
I would have sworn that said “Hillary proceeds apace.” That will teach me to read blogs pre-caffeine.
And when you’re done, come on down here, I have a garage full of crap, too :)
Like my buddy Jack says, “Throw something out today. Do it for the ones you love.” :D
Jenny
Knucklehead: I have some friends who are legitimate hoarders. And at least one of them wants to make me executor of their estate!!!!!! Oy. As Jenny says, get rid of it NOW. I am trying hard not to let my posessions posess me.
This summer we will be taking Mlle. Jenny’s advice to heart and getting a dumpster. Time to move out the crap.
