Islam and hatred
Frances Porretto, probably the least hateful, most peaceful human being in the blogosphere, is being called a “despicable, hateful ignoramus” by Dean Esmay. It is, as Mr P might say, to laugh. This is in reference to some (demonstrably truthful) remarks he’s made in relation to Islam
Dean: I’ve been honored to have had the opportunity to spend a great deal of time in conversation with Mr Porretto, and I can assure you personally, Francis is neither an ignoramus nor hateful. As to despicable, well, I’d expect any liberal to say that, because Mr Porretto has an excellent bullshit detector, and he’s not afraid to use it.
I’ve had this discussion with people I love and really respect, and it disturbs me that nobody sees this. Islam, as Mr P reminds us, is toxic to human life. Read the bible. Read the Koran. Find the places where Jesus says to kill anyone. There are exactly zero of those places. You cannot pull anything out of the gospels that even hints at violence, unless you take it way out of context.
The Koran is replete with instances where Mahomet specifically commands his followers to murder and enslave everyone else. Don’t like this? Pity. Don’t believe it? sorry, you’re demonstrably, provably wrong.
Does that make you bad? no. Does it make you worthy of opprobrium? No. Someone I love and respect once commented that I was trying to make bumper stickers, when I said “if you don’t think islam is dangerous, you don’t know enough about it yet” No, I’m not making bumper stickers, I’m TRYING TO GET PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND. Someone else made a comment, (someone else I love and respect) “saying “I know such and such a muslim who is bad” is a straw argument” went on to say “we are surrounded by peaceful muslims”.
Am I the only person whose irony meter just went off the scale?
There are those who assume because I have some major issues with Islam that I am anxious to see muslims killed. Nothing could be further from the truth, and the exact same is true of Mr Porretto. I can fairly safely say that Mr Porretto has no interest in seeing anyone die. What i want to see is everyone completely understanding islam. I want every single human to look hard at the history if Islam and study it hard. When you look at the truth, when you investigate for yourself, when you see the vileness, hatred, and intolerance with which Islam treats unbelievers all over the world, then come back and see if you call Frances Porretto hateful.
Jees.
Excerpt from the Francis Porretto Curmudgeonies:
“You hate me! You really really hate me!!””
Well, hate me too. I will wear your hatred as a badge of honor.

It amuses me to recall that in Science Fiction writer L. Neil Smith’s book The Crystal Empire, he postulates a world where Christianity is a tiny remanant and Islam is the dominant faith of the western world.
Like many of Mr. Smith’s work this book is one depicting an alternate reality.
Islam emerged dominant partly because the Black Death hit Europe even harder than it did in our own history, and partly because a wise Moslem leader arranged to have Islam’s internal rift mediated by non-moslem scholars.
And who did Mr. Smith select for this role?
Jews
The point of all of this is that one need not look at the Koran to see what the reality of Islam is. One also need not look at what they do to those of other faiths.
One in fact need only look at what they are doing to EACH OTHER.
Oh yes, and while the New Testament is pretty mild by comparison, this may have been mostly a reaction to the era’s ever present fact of Roman power. There are hints of a pretty heavy handed militancy here and there however.
And one should also recall that when the Roman Catholic church tried to destroy Protestantism by military force, some parts of Germany ended up depopulated by as much as forty percent. So maybe the Sunni / Shia split is not something without parallel in our own history.
The difference being, of course, that it’s exactly that: history.
Too many people pull out examples of Christian brutality from ages past in an attempt to justify the evil shit followers of Islam perpetrate today. I know that’s not what you were implying, Charles, but all too often criticism of Islam is deflected in that manner and I’m heartily sick and tired of it.
BTW, the massive slaughters during the 30 years war in Germany had a lot to do with the fact that most of the belligerents didn’t have very large standing armies, but instead relied heavily on mercenary companies. Often these thugs were lured into service by the promise of plunder, and plunder they did. They raped and pillaged across Germany, more often than not even robbing and raping villiages and towns that were on “their” side. The conflict was more a matter of political power and money, with religion used as an excuse, than the true believing fanaticism of Islam.
I’d take Wallenstein, Tilly, and Papenheim over Bin Laden, Al Sadr, or Al Zarqawi any day.
yep, Grau, unquesionably Christianity has bared some teeth in the past- and frankly, it’s often gotten ugly. I think Charles is just drawing a parallel, not making judgements, right Charles?
The Catholic Church, during the Middle Ages, serves as an good example of what happens when politicians run religions.
Power attracts the corruptible, the Catholic Church had power in spades; look what it got them.
But we can trust our politicians today, they’re NOT religious :)
“But we can trust our politicians today, they’re NOT religious :)”
I can only assume this is sarcasm.
Quite correct Mr. Og.
Maybe I am also thinking that being civilized is an effort and we should always be on guard against slipping back into barbarism.
Thanks for clarifying. When are you gonna start a blog, Charles?
Dean called me an ignorant bigot! he hates me! He really hates me!
Dean, here’s a little clue for you. What you choose to believe is your own business, however wrongheaded it is. Pity you’ll never open your eyes. Your comment was deleted because it was hateful. And contained only hatefulness. A real crowning acheivement for someone who wants OTHERS to not be hateful.
Pity you haven’t actually READ the koran. I have. Unlike you, I read from it every day. Unlike you, I read from the bible every day. Unlike you, I understand that the core message of Islam is utter dominace, because I won’t drink the koolaid. I understand that the core messaage of Christianity is peace, though I acknowledge a lot who have perverted this. Instead of accusing others of bigotry, guess what? Unlike you, I’m trying to change things. Bye! Write some hateful shit about me on your blog too, to show your friends how enlightened you are. I can use the traffic, and I enjoy banning moonbats. Unlike you, I don’t prevent people from coming to my site because I dislike being told I’m wrong. Should it ever happen.
