Bloom County, apparently, is back.
I liked the strip. I read it in the Sun Times when I worked at Inland, all those years ago. I read it when Opus had a little beak, that’s how long ago it was. And Breathed was rarely overtly political, and when he was, he was relatively even handed. Or it seemed so at the time.
Having read some interviews with him since, I suspect he has become at least as partisan as Trudeau or McGrueder, and all I can say is I hope he keeps it to himself. It would be sad if his considerable talent were devoted to john-stewart esque bullshit.

Bloom County, as opposed to Doonesbury, was more interested in pop culture than politics; it was the 80’s, after all, which was a tough time to be a liberal, and Breathed noted that fact in his “liberal hunting” strips of the period.
It’ll be interesting what he makes of “Caitlynn” Jenner and Kim Kardashian’s ass.
It could be interesting. Doonesbury seems to be stuck in some kind of retro loop. They were amusing before I knew how much socialism actually sucks.
FWIW, the Christmas season doesn’t start around here until our 30-something year old stuffed Opus doll is put in a sleigh and then on a prominent display shelf. So, yeah, I used to read it and like it, too. OTOH, I had less sense in those days.
I have, in the past, written-in “Bill the Cat” for certain elective offices.

I liked Calvin & Hobbes better. I well remember the military-bashing Nixon-era Doonbury…what a sad time for the country. All that “smart” turned to socialist mush.
Trudeau has been phoning it in at least since the 1980’s. Haven’t read him in years. I make a point to ignore Doonesbury when I read the rest of the Sunday funnies.
It will be interesting to see where Breathed goes with this iteration of Opus and the gang.
