I swear.
It’s like power equipment can smell the money in my bank account. The tractor just lunched a mower spindle shaft (THe one I couldn’t afford to replace last time, natch) and the parts are weeks out. Guess I’ll have to try to make them myself.Like I did last time. Damn.

Fibered grease is your friend. Green, sticky gooey stuff.
Not grease. Pulley wallowed out.
shaft probably needed hardening. Never did learn that craft. maybe keying the shaft so the pulley won’t slip. Suppose we should see pictures before giving some more worthless advice :-)
I think those are generic. You might find some that are the right size at tractor supply. I got an idler pully there a few months ago instead of ordering it from brand name company.
Anyone else notice that fewer things can even take grease now? All sealed components. I can’t believe I am supposed to drive a hundred thousand miles on a wheel bearing (or 200K) and never put any grease in it. But I have to put grease in the u joint that only wobbles 15 degrees. And there are grease fitting on the steering knuckles of my lawn tractor (30 degree arc), but none on the mower deck pullies or spindles. Crazy world.
This is a special shaft and a pulley, but I have it ordered and it’s on its way. I hope to have it by the weekend.
Most of the stuff on my mower is greasable, but that’s not the way to bet on the newer equipment, for sure.
Things aren’t designed to be maintained because most people can’t be bothered to do routine maintenance (or will pay someone else to do it for them), and when it craps the bed they junk it and get a new one.
Gotta agree with Prof… Sigh… Things todar are NOT designed for maintenance/grease. They are designed to be junked in 5 years, forcing you to buy new.
When a new chainsaw costs under $100 at the local hardware big-box store, and a chainsaw SERVICE costs $250+, why would anyone that doesn’t use it to make a living do anything BUT junk it when it breaks down?
I use the thing just enough that it is cheaper to own than hire. Buying the better one doesn’t make financial sense, let alone paying the tariff for the best.
