Charlie Brown
is, ostensibly, 69 today. Poor bastard. I suppose he never had to agonize over what clothes he was going to wear. A lot of the time he seems like an idiot because he keeps coming back for more abuse, and everything in his life goes to shit.
Still, he understands. When most of your life is crap, a little victory, here and there, is a sweet, sweet thing. When people live their lives getting participation trophies, being rewarded for succeeding is nothing special. So people go around chasing the dragon, looking for that next big buzz.
To someone who is regularly the nail that sticks up and gets hammered down, small victories are wonderful. Living your life by contrasting the hard times to the good is not the worst thing you can do.

What did you get blindshooter? Another lump of coal……
Sometimes all it takes is the glimpse of a pretty red headed girl to make thing OK.
Pretty ANY girl.
I got a rock.
Charlie hardly ever got a break, you know, and that was true from the very beginning. Here’s the first ever Peanuts strip from 1950:

Charlie brown was something I could aspire to. Had to be true love to kick that football Lucy never held.
You’re absolutely right…
Typo there: not 69, 65.
Schulz’ genius was that everyone could relate to Charlie Brown.
No typo. His birthdate is given as oct 30 1946
The enduring attraction of Peanuts? Its truth. The faceless people in charge go “Waa waa waa” and your best job is to nod your head and say, “Yes, ma’am” then go do your thing. The loudest scene stealers (Lucy) are the least talented and most vacuous. If you’re lucky, you find someone (Linus) with whom you can share some thoughts. And it all seems as if those who float through life like the Dude in the Big Lebowski (Snoopy) always bob to the top and do well while those who fight to get it right (Charlie) are spinning their wheels on ice.
I never got how women liked Peanuts as much as guys, given females in the strip are mean (Lucy, Sally) unattainable (red head girl) or odd (Patty, Marcy). There isn’t one who does not put a hurdle up for poor old Chuck. Even well meaning friend Patty blunders things to death with her Foghorn Leghorn like overbearing.
And what’s with the new Peanuts movie? I thought Schulz’s last wish was for Peanuts to “die” with him? Reuse his creation, but nothing new.
The film is directed by Steve Martino and written by Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz, and Cornelius Uliano …”
Craig Schulz and Bryan Schulz are the sons of Chuck Schulz. that’s why.
I have every expectation the film will be disappointing. Like, oh, the new Muppets tv series, where they took characters we grew to love over the years and made them all people we hate. (Even worse, it’s not funny, although this clip was the best I’ve seen so far. I’ve given up otherwise.)
