I’m still recovering from the tractor fiasco.
And the last weeks worth of weirdness both at home and in the news has not improved my mood.
When i was in seminary I spent a lot of times studying the world’s religions. I don’t recommend it. A lot of what sanity I might otherwise have retained is now gone as a result.
The world has a lot of really, really good decent people in it. Some people follow the tenets of their religion closely, and become even better people. Some people follow the tenets of their religion closely, and become monsters.
I like good people. I dislike monsters. As a Christian, it is not my concern when people are monsters; vengeance, after all, belongs to the Creator. As a human, I am not thus restricted. I know that my human self should never override my Christian self, but there are times when I wonder.
I’ve studied religion in a couple different insitutions, including a Catholic seminary.
It might have had something to do with Catholicism, but what I noticed was that in that environment, most of the students and the teachers used their faith as a challenge and a prod to improve themselves. To be better people.
That’s great.
Outside of that environment, a lot of people seem to use faith as a sword to force other people to comply with their god and punish them for not.
I pray that I’m always too busy trying to improve myself to worry about whether others are living up to some standard.
Good point, and that’s not even getting into the radical fringes that exists with all religions… sigh
When are we gonna fix the exploder?
The exploder is long gone
Nasreen: There are a lot of people who practice something masquerading as “Christianity” that is nothing of the sort. What brought you to study in a Catholic school?
escape? THe one that needs an oil pump.
Yeah. Need to get a new roof on the hosue first, the prep work for that will have me occupied.
we got lucky and had a hail storm get ours. New roof on house garage and shed thanks to insurance. I would give them a plug, but not in the comments.
Course 30 years in one house and 3 roofs, maybe something else is at work.
If you are doing It your self the architectural shingles are worth it.
