Holy Crap! It’s Earth Day!
I forgot all about that!
Well, good. I’m gonna go drive around pointlessly in my SUV, and maybe pour a couple loads of used motor oil in a local stream. Then maybe I’ll go kill something that I won’t eat, just because. And then, when I’m about to tuck in tonight, I’ll make sure all the lights are left on, maybe even plug in a couple more, and open the fridge and freezer doors so they run all nigfht long. And maybe I’ll crack open that 35 pound bottle of Freon, and make a bigger goddamned hole in the ozone layer.
It is the absolute pinnacle of pomposity to think that humans can have ANY effect on the environment, and the more we try to “manage” the “wild” the more fucked up we make it. Such has been the case forever.
Face it, folks, the planet is what it is. We may be able to have slight short term effect on the planet, but it will clean itself of everything we can do to it in no time at all, because nature replaces divots.
Remember: Nothing on this planet, not dioxin, not fossil fuels, not nothing, was from someplace else. Everything here, with the exception of a few arctic mars rocks, has always been here in some form or another. Does it make sense to conserve and not be an idiot? sure. Is it going to affect the planet, longterm? not a chance. And if it does, it will only make it inhabitable for US, something else will come along to fill the evolutionary niche we abandon.

And I was so very thankful that there was no big Earth Day celebration at school. For once.
Yeah, what he said.
Yours truly,
Pyrenean ibex
Portugese ibex
Bubal Hartebeest
Schomburgk’s deer
Falkland Islands Wolf
Quagga
Blue antelope
Sea cow
Caribbean monk seal
Bali Tiger
Javan Tiger
Caspian Tiger
Dodo
Passenger pigeon
(All extinct due to human intervention.)
Hi! Didja miss me? — Ivory Billed Woodpecker
I wonder if they could clone passenger pigeons and dodos.
I’m kind of upset I never had the chance to shoot either of those.
Don’t forget to use a sh*tload of styrofoam cups!
What the hellis a Quagga?
A quagga was a close relative of a zebra.
The extinction list posted above contains one of the rather dishonest tactics of the eco-nazis. Note that the word “tiger” appears three times in the list. There is in fact only one species of tiger. The Siberian and the Bengal, living in vastly different environmental circumstances, are still all of the same species. At most the difference can be described as “racial.” In California the eco-nazis tried to classify the black bear as endangered, just because there were alleged to be less than a certain number in the mouldering Golden State.
Oh yes, and I recall the first Earth Day. A coincidence that it was celebrated on Lenin’s birthday?
No coincidence at all, Charles.
BTW Jenny, how many would go extinct w/out intervention?
Things have been going extinct for a long time.
Except for liberals.
See, Darwin doesn’t work!
Og – I tried to embrace earth day by burning some hippies to generate steam power.
Personally, on Earth Day, we took the cats to the vet. Burned gasoline to do it. Made hazardous waste with the vaccinations and the blood test they ran on Snoopy (11 years old). Ate Hardees biscuits for breakfast and contributed our part to big corporation pollution. Came home and cut the grass (more gasoline, more pollution). Weeded the flower beds (kill those green suckers). Checked the Freon in the air conditioner, let chlorofluorocarbons free to destroy more ozone. Powerwashed the brick deck (used bleach for part of it) to get rid of all that green slime and moss. Oh, and got the car washed at the local “we use nothing but fresh water in our 2 million BTU water heaters” car wash.
Fuck Earth Day and all the hippies that go with it. I have a life to live.
I recall a professor at CSULB once saying that in Germany there were about four colors of Greens.
Brown = Nazis
Black = anarchists
Green = the few who actually cared about the
environment
Red = Socialists and Communists using the
environment as a road to power.
In the US I’d say we have about a 90/10, maybe 10% who actually give a damn about the environment, and 90% who are using environmentalism as an authoritarian vehicle to force a deeply collectivits agenda down everybody’s throat.
One might note how they have managed to set their issue above the guarantees in the Bill of Rights.
