Let’s get Sirius
Better than getting physical, especially with Howard
Sirius is hemorraging cash. I feel kind of bad, because they do provide a good service, and I think Sattelite Radio may be a good deal one day.
They fucked up, though, when they hooked their cart to Howie’s oxen.
Howard Stern made the unforgivable error of assuming “freedom of speech” meant “freedom to broadcast porn”. This is a classic example of failure of the eduational system to teach the Sterns of thew world the ability to separate facts from bullshit.
Howard had freedom of speech, all heneeded. He certainly had plenty fo freedom to cast aspersion on the current administration for “stifling his freedom of speech”. et me splain something to you, Howard: When you started bitching about Colin Powell’s son if you didn’t have the freedom of speech the Constitution guarantees? you’d be in jail being raped by the guy who drew the short straw.
So sirius gambles on a dirtbag, who is axious to take their money, and ever so much more anxious to be able to broadcast his bullshit (who stopped being funny the moment he stopped being creative about how he broadcast) and it looks like, loses.
I hope Stern fades into the obsurity he deserves. And I hope Sirius recovers and does well.

I’m still in the “I refuse to pay for radio” mode around here and I never thought what’s his name was very funny to begin with.
The only thing sattelite radio is good for is if you’re a traveller. If you’re on the road all the time, it is handy to be able to get unbroken stations across the dial and across the country.
Howard’s real problem is that he completely misunderstood why people listened to him. They listened to see if he would say anything – anything at all – that would cause the FCC to go ape shit. Whether or not he’s entertaining, I leave to others to decide. I’ve never listened to him. But basically it was the “watching for the train wreck” that got him most of his audience.
Now he’s on satellite, there are no “government decency rules” holding him back – so all the fun is gone. That’s why no one is listening. What’s the point? There will be no fines incurred, there will be no public rants about the unfairness of it all. THAT is what people were tuning in to hear – NOT Howard’s radio porn.
I used to wonder why anyone would pay for radio then I got my XM radio and I love it. It’s nice to be able to drive from Co to Iowa and not have to hunt for a station in the radio deserts of Nebraska. It isn’t just for travel though. I bought one that I can dismount from the car and I listen to it in the house, I work from home so I probably listen ten hours a day. I like the variety and the ability to listen to what I want pretty much when I want. I chose XM over Sirius because it looked to me that XM was in better shape and more likely to be around longer. As far as the price goes I eat my lunch at my desk 4 days a week now instead of 3 and that more than covers the monthly fee. One thing I don’t like so much about it is that the radios are service specific so if I decided to give sirius a shot I have to buy a new radio. Don’t know about Sirius but XM also streams their content over the web and has a free trial if you are interested in it.
If I were to get satellite I’d get XM just because Sirius was stupid enough to hire Stern. I didn’t listen when he was free and never really got the supoosed humor in his show.
I love my Sirius radio, but I have to admit that I was rather annoyed when they cut one of my talk radio stations (I think in favor of Stern, in fact, but I could be wrong). I kept it primarily for the talk radio, though, and since I’ve now moved to an area where I can actually get the local talk stations, I’ll probably go back to the not-paying model of radio fairly soon.
