Week one in the can
So this last week was my first official week working for the new company.
They Are very good people that I have known for a very long time. I look forward greatly to working with them and what it is I will be doing is extremely important to me.
I will be doing engraving on firearms. Most of us will be machine or laser type engraving but the possibility exists that I will also eventually be doing hand Engraving because I intend to take some of those classes.
There is a great deal to do. There is a great deal that has needed to be done for a very long time. My new employers are technically capable but predominantly artistic in nature. My intention is to improve upon their situation by bringing more hard engineering into play.
This will not be easy.
May God have mercy on my soul.
Standing up some new processes would be a good thing to do. You have seen a bunch of ways to do it wrong, now to do it right.
Good luck on that.
Well…That’s an unexpected but very cool change. Interesting new challenge.
Best wishes for a successful enterprise!
It will be interesting to see.
I’m in awe of the hand cut pieces of art on high end hunting guns created using gravers and jewelry techniques. While I wouldn’t be surprised if the proper cutting tools could do something similar under CNC control, I’d really want to look at those engraved marks under a microscope and see life tests to simulate what they’ll look like in 50 years. Trading between the sharpened tool cutting a groove vs. a rotating piece of metal doing the same work.
I played with an engraving demo at one of the hobby machinist shows. I’ve also taken silversmithing classes and made jewelry so I’ve seen those tools from both sides.
And I’d be surprised if you didn’t know of better ways to do it than a metal hacker like me.
You spent a whole week in the can? DAMN!! I knew you were old, but you should see a doctor, dude. That’s not normal.
Congratulations on your new job! Happy to see it finally came through…
